We want to provide clarification regarding recent communications sent by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas concerning Amarillo Medical Specialists.

While Blue Cross Blue Shield stated that negotiations were ongoing, we have not received a new contract proposal from them, nor have they offered to meet with us despite our multiple requests and communication attempts over the past several weeks. Unfortunately, our efforts to continue discussions and reach a resolution have gone unanswered.

Because no agreement has been reached, Amarillo Medical Specialists is currently considered out of network with certain Blue Cross Blue Shield plans effective May 1, 2026.

This outcome is deeply disappointing to us, as we remain committed to caring for our patients and had hoped to continue productive discussions toward a fair agreement that supports continued access to high-quality care in our community.

At this time, we encourage patients to continue scheduled appointments as usual while reviewing their individual insurance benefits and options.

If you are being treated for a chronic condition, you may be eligible for continuity of care coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield. You can access the form here:

Blue Cross Update for May 4
Important Update for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Patients

As of May 1, 2026, Amarillo Medical Specialists is no longer in-network with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX).

We want our patients to know:

We remain open and available to care for you.

Many patients may still qualify to continue care with us at in-network benefit levels through continuity-of-care or exception requests.

Our staff is available to help you understand your options

We continue to be ready and willing to work with BCBSTX to reach a new agreement that supports patient access to specialty care in our community.

We are aware that some patients are experiencing difficulty obtaining authorizations or identifying alternative in-network specialists locally. If you are encountering issues accessing care, please contact our office—we will do our best to assist you.

Our priority remains uninterrupted, high-quality care for our patients.

BLUE CROSS Update for April 29.

Blue Cross has not responded to our last proposal, which was made over 3 months ago. They have said they were too busy and too short handed to get to it, but they did want to keep us in-network.

We are not able to forecast when BCBS will have time to look at our proposal. Please reach out to BCBS and ask them to hurry up !!

We are still available to see all patients. Please contact BCBS to get a Continuity of Care approval to maintain your coverage at https://bit.ly/bcbstx-care-request .

We remain committed to reaching a fair agreement that will allow us to continue providing high-quality care to you and our community. We have formally requested a meeting with Blue Cross Blue Shield and are currently awaiting confirmation so that negotiations can move forward.

In the meantime, please continue to keep your scheduled appointments as planned. Your care remains our highest priority, and we are working diligently to ensure continuity of care while minimizing any potential disruption.
