Trauma doesn’t always look like a breakdown.

Sometimes it looks like someone who’s always a little on edge. Always prepared for the worst. Always tired in a way that sleep doesn’t fix.

👉🏻 Trauma is a response to overwhelming experience — and that response lives in the body, not just the mind. The nervous system learns to stay on guard, even when the danger is long gone.

👉🏻 Hypervigilance, physical tension, disrupted sleep, and being easily startled are all ways the body holds what the mind has tried to move past.

💙 If your body has been trying to tell you something — it might be worth listening.

Does any of this resonate? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Depression doesn’t always look like sadness.

Sometimes it looks like someone who shows up, gets things done, and seems completely fine.
And feels absolutely nothing the whole time.

👉🏻 Functional depression is real. Many people live with persistent depressive symptoms while continuing to meet their obligations — and never get support because they don’t look “depressed enough.”

👉🏻 The absence of visible suffering doesn’t mean the suffering isn’t there.

💙 If you’ve been going through the motions and wondering why nothing feels like anything anymore — that matters. You don’t have to be in crisis to deserve support.

Have you ever felt like this but talked yourself out of it because you were “still functioning”? Let us know in the comments.

Anxiety doesn’t always show up as panic.

Sometimes it looks like being the most prepared person in the room.

Sometimes it looks like people-pleasing, perfectionism, or a to-do list that never ends.

👉🏻 High-functioning anxiety isn’t a clinical diagnosis — but the experience is very real. Many people carry significant anxiety while appearing completely okay on the outside.

👉🏻 The nervous system doesn’t care how well you’re holding it together. It keeps the score anyway.

💙 If you recognized yourself in any of these — you’re not alone, and you don’t have to just keep managing it.

What’s one thing on this list you’ve never connected to anxiety before? Let us know in the comments.

We have some news. 🤍

Annie is moving — and with that comes a transition in how she’ll be seeing clients.

Starting this summer, Annie will be fully virtual and will not be taking new clients until July. So if you’ve been thinking about reaching out to work with her, July is the time.

👉🏻 Devin and Jeff aren’t going anywhere — they’ll still be here, seeing clients in person and continuing to do the work they do.

This is a big, exciting, and not-without-its-feelings move — and we’re so grateful for the community that’s grown around this practice. 💙

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

And we’re going to use it.

Not for vague inspiration or ribbon graphics —
but for real conversations about what’s actually going on for people.

This month, we’re talking about anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, people-pleasing, relationships, and the way we talk to ourselves when no one’s listening.

👉🏻 The stuff that lives in the quiet.

The things you feel but maybe haven’t had words for yet.

💙 That’s what this month is for.

Follow along — we’ll be here every week in May with something worth reading.

The goal of therapy is not to feel calm.

We know that’s not what you were hoping to hear.

Because most people come to us wanting the anxiety to stop. Wanting the intrusive thoughts to go quiet. Wanting to just feel okay for once without having to work so hard at it.

And we get that. We really do.

👉🏻But here’s the truth:

Calm is not the destination. Calm is a byproduct.

When you do the real work — when you understand where your patterns came from, when you stop running from the things that scare you, when your nervous system learns that you can handle hard things — calm starts to show up on its own.

Not because you forced it. Because you earned it.

👉🏻Here’s what the real goal actually looks like:

Your mom says something that used to send you into a spiral — and you feel it, and you move through it.

Something goes wrong at work — and you’re frustrated, not devastated.

A relationship gets hard — and you stay present instead of shutting down or burning it all down.

That’s not calm. That’s resilience. And it’s so much more useful than calm.

You don’t need to stop feeling things. You need to stop being at the mercy of them. 💙

Does this land for you? Tell us in the comments — we read every single one.

04/28/2026

Feelings are real.

They are not always facts.

And that distinction might be one of the most important things we can teach you.

Because here’s what happens when we treat every feeling like an undeniable truth:

You feel unlovable — so you must be unlovable.

You feel like a failure — so you must be failing.

You feel like something bad is going to happen — so something bad must be coming.

👉🏻But feelings are not facts. They are data.

They tell you something is going on. They deserve to be taken seriously. AND they need to be investigated before you build your entire reality around them.

That anxious feeling that your friend is mad at you? Worth looking into — not worth assuming is true.

That voice that says you’re not enough? Real, and worth exploring — not a verdict.

That sense of dread about the future? Important information — not a prophecy.

👉🏻Here’s the practice:

Next time a feeling shows up, get curious before you get certain. Ask — is this true? Is this a fact or is this a feeling? What else might be going on here?

Your feelings deserve to be heard. They just don’t always deserve the final word. 💙

Which feeling do you tend to treat like a fact? Drop it in the comments — we read every single one.

Your feelings are not problems to be solved.

They are signals. Information. A check engine light on the dashboard of your nervous system telling you something needs attention.

And yet — most of us have been taught to do one of two things with our feelings.

Push them down.

Or fix them as fast as possible.

👉🏻Here’s what that actually looks like:

Feeling anxious, so you distract yourself until it passes. Feeling sad, so you talk yourself out of it. Feeling angry, so you shame yourself into calm. Feeling overwhelmed, so you just push through.

The light goes off. Problem solved. Right?

Except the engine is still broken.

👉🏻Here’s what we actually want you to try:

Get curious about the feeling before you try to get rid of it. Ask what it’s telling you. What’s going on underneath it? What does it need?

Feelings that get heard tend to move through.

Feelings that get suppressed tend to show up louder later.

You don’t have to be destroyed by your emotions to take them seriously. You just have to be willing to listen. 💙

Which feeling do you find hardest to sit with? Drop it in the comments — we read every single one.

Coping skills will not save you.

And we mean that with full respect for every breathing exercise, grounding technique, and journaling prompt you’ve ever been handed.

Because those things matter. They genuinely do.

👉🏻But here’s what nobody tells you:

Coping skills are band-aids. They’re designed to manage the pain — not heal the wound. And if all you ever do is manage, you’ll spend the rest of your life managing.

Deep breathing doesn’t resolve trauma.

A gratitude list doesn’t rewire a nervous system that learned the world wasn’t safe.

Counting to ten doesn’t address why you’re so dysregulated in the first place.

👉🏻Here’s what we actually believe:

Coping skills are the bridge that gets you stable enough to do the real work. They keep you standing. They keep you functioning. And they matter enormously for that reason.

But the real work — understanding where the pain comes from, why your patterns developed, what your nervous system learned to do to survive — that’s what actually changes things.

You deserve more than a lifetime of managing. 💙

What’s a coping skill you’ve been handed that felt like it was missing something? Let us know in the comments — we’d love to hear from you.

The cycle is real and we are not okay 😭

Jokes aside — canceling therapy when life gets hard is one of the most common things we see. And it makes complete sense. When you’re overwhelmed, adding one more thing to your calendar feels impossible.

But here’s the thing.

👉🏻That overwhelm IS the thing therapy is for.

You don’t have to have it together to show up. You just have to show up.

If you’ve been putting off scheduling because life feels like too much right now — that’s exactly when we want to hear from you. 💙

Drop a 😭 if this hit too close to home — we see you and we’re not judging.

A TikTok checklist cannot diagnose you with ADHD.

And we want to be careful here — because the ADHD awareness conversation has genuinely helped people. Women especially. Girls who spent their whole childhood being told they were spacey, ditzy, or just not applying themselves. That recognition is long overdue.

And let us be clear about something else: not being diagnosed as a kid doesn’t mean you don’t have it. We’ve sat with adult clients, started noticing patterns in session, and helped connect them to a proper evaluation. Adult diagnoses are real. Self-awareness is valuable.

👉🏻But here’s where it gets complicated:

When the checklist is “do you lose things, get distracted, feel restless” — that describes almost every stressed, anxious, sleep-deprived human alive. That’s not a diagnostic tool. That’s Tuesday.

ADHD has specific clinical criteria. It shows up across multiple settings — not just when life is overwhelming. It’s a pattern that goes back to childhood. And it significantly impacts functioning in ways that go beyond occasionally losing your phone.

👉🏻Here’s what this costs:

People who don’t have ADHD believe they do. People who actually do have ADHD don’t get the thorough evaluation they deserve. Both outcomes cause real harm.

Your instinct to understand yourself is not the problem.
The 60-second diagnosis is. 💙
