Age is just a number, but your attitude? That’s everything.
At 70, I decided I wanted to change my life. I didn’t know if I could do it, but I knew I couldn’t keep doing what I’d always done. Choosing positivity isn’t about ignoring the hard days, it’s about choosing to believe you are capable of growing through them.
If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like it’s “too late” for you, here are 5 things that keep my mind and heart in the right place:
1. Focus on what you CAN do, not what you can’t.
When I first started at the gym, I couldn’t even do a proper squat. If I had focused on my limitations, I would have quit on day one. Celebrate the small wins. A 10-minute walk is 10 minutes more than zero.
2. Shift your vocabulary.
Try changing “I have to” to “I get to.” I don’t *have* to meal prep or go lift weights; I *get* to nourish and strengthen this beautiful body that carries me through life. Gratitude changes your entire lens.
3. Stop comparing your Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 20.
Social media can make us feel inadequate if we let it. Remember, the only person you are competing with is the person you were yesterday. Your journey is uniquely yours.
4. Surround yourself with a “can-do” tribe.
Energy is contagious. Fill your circle and your feed with people who lift you up, challenge you to grow, and cheer for your success.
5. Give yourself grace.
Change takes time. You’re going to have off days, missed workouts, or moments of doubt. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed; it just means you’re human. Dust yourself off, smile, and start fresh with the very next choice you make.
You are never too old, and it is never too late to reinvent yourself and choose joy. 💖
