I wear 🏳️‍🌈
So my patients know they are safe with me.
So the couple in the restaurant know they aren't alone.
So the two boys who see me notice them kissing know I won’t judge.
So the le****ns with kids know I support their parenthood.
To remind me to check my own baggage biases.
I wear pride bc your hate makes them hide.
I'm an ally for my son's right to exist and love whoever he wants.

When you’re an ER doctor and have zero problems with blood, guts, bones, re**al exams, disimpactions….. but your wife tells you to shred the chicken and the dumplings….🤢 gloves and goggles are a necessity!

Absolutely loving my new ink today by Jessiink at So1Ink LLC! The Rod of Asclepius - which is the only true symbol of medicine; is the official symbol of the WHO, AMA, and NEJM (to name a few); and has historically been associated with Osteopathic Medicine, a.k.a. D.O. as well.

In Greek religion and mythology, Asclepius is the God of Medicine and Healing.

The Rod of Asclepius consists of a single snake coiled around a rod - seemingly understated in its simplicity, yet overflowing with symbolism.

The serpent’s symbolic duality of both life and death is seen as it sheds its skin - representing both rebirth and fertility, longevity and immortality. Additionally, it’s venom can either kill or cure when used as a toxin versus a tonic.

The Physicians Hippocratic Oath is dedicated to four deities: Apollo (God of Truth & Light), Asclepius (God of Medicine and Healing), Hygieia (Goddess of Hygiene and Cleanliness), and Panacea (Goddesses of Remedies).

NOTE: this is commonly mistaken for the Caduceus symbol consisting of a rod with two snakes coiled around it; representing Hermes or Mercury, and is said to be the patron of thieves, merchants, and outlaws - not a desirable protector of physicians.

It’s cold out there! Stay inside and stay warm. Hypothermia and frostbite are serious consequences that can happen from even short skin exposure (~10 minutes) in these temperatures.

Sometimes you meet an exceptional patient and create a connection. That happened yesterday in the ER, and I promised him I would come visit him today "as his friend and 'my grandpa' and not a doctor." Before I came, I even learned how to greet him properly in his native Laos language as my elder. And now we have plans to get sushi together whenever he gets discharged from the hospital! 😊

What does it take to be a good doctor?
One single word: CARING ☺️

FED Teamwork for the Win!
When you're so short-staffed, even the Medical Director jumps in to help mop the floors and bathrooms at 5am!
(After seeing 54 patients in the past 10 hours, and immediately after 4 admissions including a STEMI!)

When mom needs to use the bathroom and you’re already short-staffed, you get to cuddle the little ones! 🥰 (been running urine samples to the lab, etc as well LoL)
