Can’t stop coughing? Your cough is your body’s way of clearing mucus, germs, and irritants from your airways, but that doesn’t make a lingering cough any less frustrating. For mild coughs caused by colds or allergies, try staying hydrated, using a cool-mist humidifier, sipping warm tea or broth, or having a little honey to soothe your throat. Avoiding irritants like cigarette or v**e smoke and strong fragrances may also help. If your cough lasts longer than three weeks or is accompanied by shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, or blood when coughing, it’s time to talk with a healthcare provider.

Burping more than usual? It could be something as simple as eating too quickly, drinking carbonated beverages, chewing gum, using a straw, or eating certain foods. Stress and anxiety can also cause you to swallow more air without realizing it.

Try slowing down while you eat, cutting back on fizzy drinks, and paying attention to foods that seem to trigger your symptoms. If frequent burping is accompanied by pain, heartburn, or other digestive concerns, talk with your healthcare provider to make sure there isn’t an underlying issue.
