Many of the behaviors we struggle with as adults didn’t start in adulthood. They often began as ways to survive, adapt, or stay safe earlier in life.

Overexplaining, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or struggling to trust your own needs aren’t character flaws — they’re patterns that once served a purpose.

The encouraging part?
Our brains are capable of change.

With awareness and intentional work, those old survival patterns can be rewired into healthier beliefs, boundaries, and self-trust.

Healing isn’t about blaming the past.

Self-abandonment doesn’t always look obvious.

Sometimes it looks like:
• constantly people-pleasing
• ignoring your own needs
• doubting your instincts
• putting everyone else’s feelings before your own

Over time, this can create a deep disconnect from yourself.

Self-abandonment often develops as a survival strategy, but healing begins when we start listening to our needs, trusting our instincts, and allowing ourselves to matter too.

Learning to show up for yourself is one of the most important parts of healing. 💜

Some reminders we all need from time to time:

You deserve kind words — especially from yourself.

You deserve rest without feeling like you have to earn it.

You deserve spaces and relationships where you feel safe and seen.

You deserve progress, even when it’s slow and imperfect.

And you deserve moments of peace… even if they are small.

Mental health isn’t about perfection. It’s about giving yourself the same compassion you offer to everyone else.

Sometimes the most powerful step is simply reminding yourself that you are worthy of these things every single day.

Animals have a unique way of helping people feel calm, safe, and connected. Research shows that interacting with animals can lower stress, reduce anxiety, regulate heart rate, and increase feelings of comfort and trust.
For many people, animals also help create a sense of grounding in the present moment—something that can be incredibly valuable when working through difficult emotions or experiences.

Ever wonder who’s on the other end of the line when you call Neuro-Forge Therapy? ☎️

Meet Teri — our amazing office manager! She’s the friendly voice helping schedule appointments, answering questions, and keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. If you’ve called the office, chances are you’ve already experienced her kindness and patience.
