The pressure to “bounce back” after giving birth is heavy—but your postpartum season is a time for healing, not racing to a number on the scale. 🌸

When you are nourishing a baby, you are doing incredible, demanding work. Did you know that breastfeeding mothers generally need an additional 330 to 400 calories a day just to meet their energy needs?

Here’s the truth about postpartum weight and feeding:
✨ Your recovery should center on healing, rest, and adequate nourishment.
✨ Nutrient depletion is common during pregnancy and breastfeeding demands even more nutrients! Ending up with a deficiency can hinder breastmilk production through route of thyroid and hormone disruption. Deficiencies can also contribute to other maternal health concerns, fatigue, mood disorders and more.
✨ Rapid weight loss is not the goal. Severe calorie restriction (less than 1800 calories/day showed a 30% reduction in volume) can actually reduce your milk supply and lead to fatigue.
✨ Too much weight loss too quickly paired with the drop in estrogen that happens postpartum can trigger gallbladder issues, mood changes and more making your postpartum recovery more difficult!
✨ Body neutrality is powerful. It’s okay if weight loss happens gradually, and it’s okay if it doesn’t happen at all. Remember that your body just CREATED A LIFE and that you’re now NOURISHING yourself and another human, and that is INCREDIBLE.

Your worth is not measured by how quickly you fit into your pre-pregnancy clothes. Let’s support our bodies as they recover and sustain life. 🤍

If you have questions about your individual nutrition needs or milk supply, reach out to your care team, a registered dietitian, or a lactation consultant.

Help!

Looking for inexpensive or free medium maternity clothes for a 19-year-old who is pregnant. Right now, she’s especially in need of black maternity pants so she can continue working at her job.

She doesn’t have a car, and the woman she is staying with just had surgery, so she may not be able to pick things up immediately. However, if you’re willing to donate, you’re welcome to drop items off at my office, and I’ll make sure they get to the family she’s staying with. If you’d rather coordinate directly with them, I’m happy to put you in touch with the family as well.

They’re also looking for gender-neutral baby items until she has her anatomy scan and finds out what she’s having.

They are also on the lookout for a very affordable car seat and stroller system (finances are a factor) or car seat and caddy.

Thank you so much for any help, shares, or prayers. ❤️

The days after birth are filled with so much love but they are also filled with healing.
As you care for your new baby, don’t forget that you deserve care, as well. Recovery isn’t a race, and caring for yourself is one of the best ways to care for your family.

Here are five postpartum self-care reminders:

🤍 Rest
Your body has done incredible work. Give it the time and grace to recover.

💧 Keep the essentials nearby
Stay hydrated, keep nourishing snacks within reach, and don’t forget your postpartum comfort items like padsicles.

🛁 Take a shower or bath
A few quiet moments to refresh your body can do wonders for your mind, too.

🍲 Have a meal plan
Simple meals, freezer dinners, or help from loved ones can make a big difference during those early weeks.

🫶 Ask for help
Whether it’s holding the baby while you nap, dropping off dinner, or folding laundry, let others love on you during this season.

Postpartum isn’t about “bouncing back.” It’s about healing, adjusting, and learning your new rhythm. Give yourself the same kindness and patience you would offer a dear friend. You are doing an amazing job. 🤍
