Your HIV treatment should work for YOU. ❤️

Many people living with HIV are able to stay on the same effective treatment regimen for years. But treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some people have difficulty taking medication consistently, experience side effects, have trouble maintaining viral suppression, or simply need a regimen that better fits their lifestyle.

The good news? HIV treatment has come a long way.

Today’s antiretroviral medications are highly effective, generally well tolerated, and many are designed to be simple and convenient. For many people, treatment can mean taking one pill once a day. Other options may be appropriate depending on your individual health needs, treatment history, and preferences.

If your current treatment isn’t working well for you or isn’t fitting your life the way you’d like talk to your healthcare provider.

Switching treatments may be an option, but it should always be done with medical guidance to protect viral suppression and future treatment options.

HIV treatment has changed lives, and it continues to change the way we understand HIV.

When a person living with HIV takes effective HIV medication as prescribed and achieves and maintains an undetectable viral load, they will not sexually transmit HIV to their partners. That’s U=U: Undetectable = Untransmittable.

Getting tested is the first step. If you test positive, treatment can help you get and stay undetectable, protecting your health and preventing sexual transmission of HIV.

Know your status. Get connected to care. Take your treatment. Know your viral load.

When you’re living with HIV, taking care of your overall health includes taking care of your vision. HIV can be associated with certain eye conditions, particularly when the immune system is weakened. While effective HIV treatment has dramatically reduced many serious HIV-related eye complications, regular healthcare and staying connected to treatment remain important.

At PASO, our case managers can connect eligible clients with vision healthcare resources, including eye exams and glasses, so you can take another important step toward protecting your health and quality of life.

🚗 Getting to your healthcare appointments shouldn’t be a barrier to getting the care you need.

For individuals living with HIV, staying connected to regular medical care is an important part of maintaining your health. But transportation challenges can make it difficult to get to the doctor, pick up medications, or keep important appointments.

PASO is here to help!

Today is Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

HIV continues to have a disproportionate impact on communities across the Southern United States.

📊 In 2024:
• 51% of new HIV diagnoses in the U.S. occurred in the South.
• More than 532,000 people were living with diagnosed HIV in the South, 46% of the U.S. total.
• The South also accounted for 53% of HIV-related deaths.

These numbers remind us that HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and access to care remain critical across Southern communities.

For people living with HIV, having a safe and stable place to call home can make a meaningful difference in their health and well-being. Housing instability can create barriers to healthcare, medication adherence, and maintaining overall wellness.

The Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) program is the only federal program specifically dedicated to addressing the housing needs of low-income people living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

Depending on eligibility and local program availability, HOPWA can provide assistance such as rental support, short-term help with rent, mortgage or utilities, housing placement, and supportive services.

PASO is here to help you connect.

Our team can help individuals living with HIV learn about available housing resources and connect with programs that may help them maintain stable housing and stay connected to the care and support they need.
