William Osei, Director of Partial Hospitalization Programs at the Horsham Clinic, recently participated in Learning Life Skills Together, a podcast on Spotify hosted by Dr. McCown of the Center for Contemplative Studies at West Chester University. The podcast offers thoughtful conversations about mental health care and practical support for caregivers helping their children navigate mental health challenges.

In the episode, Weekly Community Meeting #108, William shared a revealing perspective on important life skills used to support children who may be feeling out of balance. He discussed how these skills can deepen our desire to continue learning, strengthen our ability to support one another and encourage meaningful growth. William ended the episode with words of wisdom of the Sankofa bird, which moves forward while looking backward. Its symbolism reminds us that looking to the past can help us reclaim important lessons and carry that wisdom into the future.

*We can learn from the past to guide the present and future.*

Thank you to Dr. McCown and the Learning Life Skills Together podcast for creating space for meaningful conversations that support children, families, caregivers and mental health professionals.

International Overdose Awareness Day, observed annually on August 31, reminds us that an overdose is never just a statistic. Behind every loss is a person, someone's friend, child, sibling, spouse, colleague or loved one. We honor those we have lost, support individuals and families affected by substance use disorders and reaffirm our commitment to reducing stigma, fostering compassion and connecting people with lifesaving care. Recovery is possible and help is available.

The Horsham Clinic's dual-diagnosis units provide specialized, compassionate care for adults experiencing both mental health and substance use challenges. If you or a loved one needs support, contact our Admissions Department at 1-800-237-4447 for a confidential evaluation and to learn more about available treatment options and resources. https://bit.ly/3T2pBgk

August 30 marks National Grief Awareness Day, an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about grief and supporting those navigating loss. Grief has no timeline and everyone experiences and copes with it differently. No one should have to face it alone. Open conversations, compassionate dialogue and professional care can offer essential support through the healing process.

If you or someone you love is struggling with loss, the Horsham Clinic is here to help. To learn more about how our inpatient and partial hospital programs can help visit our website at https://bit.ly/4zNdWTi.

Today, we conclude our 5 C's of Wellness series for National Wellness Month with the fifth and final C: Caring.

Caring is reflected in the empathy, kindness and compassion we show to others, as well as in the way we treat ourselves. It can be as simple as offering support, listening without judgment, recognizing when someone may be struggling, or extending ourselves the same patience and understanding we so often give to those around us.

At The Horsham Clinic, patients are encouraged to explore how caring relationships and self-compassion can support emotional wellness. Mental health care provides a space to better understand personal needs, practice healthier coping strategies and develop greater compassion for the experiences that shape who we are. Caring for yourself is not selfish. It is an essential part of building a foundation for healing, resilience and personal growth. Caring reminds us that wellness is not only about how we show up for others but also about how gently and compassionately we show up for ourselves.

Yesterday, the Horsham Clinic was honored to attend Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy's Annual Back-to-School Wellness Fair. One message from the event particularly stood out to us: Do it now. Sometimes “later” becomes “never.” Whether it is reaching out for support, setting a boundary or prioritizing your mental health, the moment to act is now.

It was a wonderful day spent with teachers, families, students and community partners, all coming together to promote connection, support and a healthy start to the school year. We are grateful to have been part of such a meaningful event!

Tuesday continues our 5 C’s of Wellness, with a focus on the fourth C: Character.

Character is reflected in the values we hold, the choices we make and the way we take responsibility for our actions. Seeking mental health care can support character development by creating space for honest self-reflection, personal growth and a better understanding of how our thoughts, emotions and behaviors affect ourselves and others.

At the Horsham Clinic, patients are encouraged to explore their values, recognize patterns, develop healthier responses and make choices that support their goals. Therapy can help individuals practice accountability while also building self-compassion and understanding. Growth is not about being perfect. It is about becoming more aware, making intentional choices and continuing to learn from each experience.

Character grows through reflection, responsibility and the willingness to move forward with purpose.
