The CDC and public health partners are currently investigating a multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis. While the source has not yet been identified, and there have been no reported cases in Idaho, it's a good reminder to practice safe food handling habits
What is it?
Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis.
What are the symptoms?
Common symptoms include:
Watery diarrhea (sometimes prolonged)
Loss of appetite
Stomach cramps or bloating
Nausea
Fatigue
Low-grade fever (occasionally)
Symptoms usually begin about a week after exposure and can last for several weeks if untreated.
How does it spread?
People become infected by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with the parasite. Fresh produce—such as leafy greens, herbs, and berries—has been linked to past outbreaks. The parasite is not usually spread directly from person to person, because it needs time in the environment before it becomes infectious.
How can you help protect yourself?
Wash fresh fruits and vegetables before eating or preparing them.
Practice good hand hygiene, especially before eating and after using the restroom.
Drink water from safe, reliable sources.
If you develop persistent diarrhea, stay hydrated and contact your healthcare provider.
The good news is that cyclosporiasis is treatable, and a few simple precautions go a long way. So, keep washing those veggies, and washing those hands

Our annual golf classic was a success! We are incredibly grateful to every sponsor, golfer, volunteer, donor, and supporter who participated in this year’s Power County Hospital District Foundation Golf Tournament. Your willingness to show up, give back, and invest in the health and well-being of our community means more than words can express.

Your generosity helps us continue serving patients, families, and residents throughout our region.

To our sponsors, thank you for believing in our mission and for your ongoing commitment to the communities we serve. To our golfers and volunteers, thank you for giving your time, energy, and support to make this event such a success.

Every team, every donation, every raffle ticket, every conversation, and every act of support helped make a difference.

We are fortunate to live and work in a community that consistently shows up for one another. Thank you for helping us strengthen local healthcare and for being part of something bigger than a single day on the golf course.

From all of us at the Power County Hospital District Foundation, thank you for your support, your generosity, and your belief in our community. We couldn’t do it without you.

To every nurse on our team: you are the heartbeat of this place. Your compassion doesn't clock out. Your kindness fills every hallway. Your dedication changes lives every single day.
You hold hands during hard moments. You celebrate victories big and small. You remember birthdays, comfort worries, and bring light into rooms that need it most. You don't just care for our patients and residents, you love them. And it shows.

This week especially, we want you to know how deeply seen, valued, and appreciated you are. Words will never fully capture what you give, but we hope you feel it in every smile, every hug, and every "thank you" that comes your way this week.

Happy Nurses Week. Happy National Nursing Home Week. Here's to YOU our heroes in scrubs!
