After a hit, signs of a concussion can be easy to miss. You might notice changes in balance, vision, focus, sleep, mood, behavior, or just feel “off.”

If there’s no headache, it’s easy to think everything is okay.

But concussion symptoms can affect many parts of the nervous system. That’s why it’s important to notice any changes after an injury.

You've heard us use the term Board-Certified Functional Neurologist, but what does that actually mean 🤔, and why should it matter to you as a patient?

Board certification represents advanced education and examination in clinical neurology beyond a doctor's initial professional training.

But the credential itself is only part of the story.

At Lifestream, that knowledge helps our doctors understand how different parts of the nervous system work together, interpret what they're seeing during an exam, and determine what type and intensity of therapy may be appropriate for the individual in front of them.

That's why an exam might include your eye movements, balance, reflexes, coordination, cognition and other areas that may not initially seem connected to the symptoms that brought you in.

While coaching high school football, he watched athletes sustain concussions and realized many were still struggling after the initial injury. That search for better answers eventually led him back to school for advanced study in clinical neurology and fellowship training in concussion rehabilitation.

That experience still shapes the way we look at concussion today: not simply, “Is the headache gone?” but, “How is the brain actually functioning?”

Over the next several weeks, we'll be sharing more about concussion, what parents and athletes may notice after an injury, and why symptoms can extend far beyond a headache.

Play hard. Play safe. And pay attention when something just doesn't seem right.

Congratulations are in order, and boy, did we go big!
🧠 Thing 1 and Thing 2 showed up in blue wigs,
Because today's news was simply too good —
Dr. Sam is board-certified (yes, we knew that he would)!

We celebrated in style with lunch and a cake,
A big frosted brain was the treat we did make.
Gary the Gnome even joined in the fray,
Fluffy blue hair of his own for the day.

So here's to the brains, the hard work, the grind —
It's a brain thing, and Dr. Sam is one (ok, maybe 2) of a kind. 🧠💙

🎉 Huge congratulations are in order! Dr. Sam officially passed his boards and is now a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board (DACNB): board-certified in functional neurology, right alongside Dr. Joe 🎉

This isn't a weekend course or a certificate you pick up after a seminar. Board certification means advanced postdoctorate training, rigorous written and hands-on practical exams, and a real commitment to ongoing education.

It's what lets Dr. Sam dig deeper into what's actually going on in a patient's brain and body, not just manage symptoms.

We're so proud of him, and even more excited for what it means for our patients. Over the next several weeks, we'll be sharing more about what board certification in functional neurology actually takes and why it matters for your care.

If you just started hearing a song in your head… we should talk about your brain 😂

Good vibrations are a real thing! The vibe plate provides unpredictable input to the nervous system, stimulating receptors in the joints and muscles that send information to the brain. When used intentionally with other sensory input, it can support balance, coordination, and body awareness — helping the brain better understand where the body is in space. But the plate itself isn’t the treatment.

It’s how it’s used, when it’s used, and who it’s used for that makes the difference.

Better input → better output.

It’s not magic.
