🚨The Pharmacists Association of Western New York (PAWNY) is pleased to offer an upcoming continuing education program:

Vaccines in the Wild West: Navigating Today's Immunization Frontier Through Patient Cases
Date: Tuesday, August 18, 2026

Format: Live Webinar

This application-based continuing education program will use patient cases to review current immunization recommendations and vaccine decision-making. Eligible participants will earn 1.0 ACPE continuing education credit upon successful completion of the activity. The featured speaker is Joy Snyder, PharmD, MPH, BCACP, Clinical Research Pharmacist at the Wilmot Cancer Institute.
The program is open to pharmacists, residents, students, pharmacy technicians, and other interested learners. There is no cost for students, residents, or pharmacy technicians. PAWNY, PSR, and WNYSHP members also receive discounted registration.

***This CE is required for all pharmacists who plan on signing on to immunization standing orders with PAWNY in partnership with CPESN NY this year.***

Learn more about the presenter for our upcoming CE on compounding:

Sara Hover, RPh, joined the PCCA Clinical Services team in June 2013 and was promoted to manager of clinical services in 2021, director in 2023, and senior director in 2025. As a clinical compounding pharmacist for PCCA, she has the opportunity to share her clinical and compounding knowledge with pharmacists across the US and Canada. PCCA has always provided her as a pharmacist/business owner with the tools to succeed. Now, on the other side of the fence, as a PCCA team member, she is honored to continue this superior service to other PCCA members. Sara loves educating pharmacists and physicians on a variety of topics, including women’s health, hormone replacement therapy, and compounding options to improve patients’ lives and health span. She spent 20 years practicing pharmacy as a PCCA member, including 10 years as a pharmacy owner. She learned a lot about pharmacy and compounding from her earlier experiences and about starting and running a business from her latter experience. She started Creative Compounds in Prosper, TX, an independent compounding-only pharmacy focused on women’s health and nutrition, where she surrounded herself with great people, making the pharmacy a success. Sara obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994. She obtained a fellowship in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Functional Medicine in 2015. She is a wife and proud mother of 3 children, all grown or almost grown, with a couple still on the payroll. 2024 was a big year for Sara, as she became a grandmother.

This spring, UB pharmacy students made a significant impact through pharmacy advocacy and community engagement. We are excited to share some of the events that UB SPAWNY led and participated in!

1. On April 21, more than 30 UB pharmacy students traveled to Albany to meet with legislators and advocate for legislation that advances patient care and supports the sustainability of pharmacy practice. Students discussed several key bills, including legislation that would authorize pharmacists to perform CLIA-waived point-of-care testing for common illnesses such as RSV, allow pharmacists to prescribe medications following positive test results, and establish fair reimbursement practices for pharmacies through the Pharmacy Access and Patient Protection Act (PAPA). Through these conversations, students highlighted the vital role of pharmacists in improving patient access to care and shared firsthand experiences from their patient care activities. Students met with several legislators, including Senator Rob Ortt, Senator Stephen Chan, Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Senator Mario Mattera, Assemblymember Sam Berger, Assemblymember Michael Cashman, and Assemblymember James Skoufis.

2. On April 25, UB SPAWNY partnered with Kaleida Health to support the annual DEA Drug Take Back Day event. Together, students and healthcare professionals helped nearly 100 community members safely dispose of expired or unused medications. Pharmacy students educated participants on proper medication disposal, worked alongside DEA agents to collect medications, and provided information about health resources. Through this event, students helped promote medication safety, reduce the risk of medication misuse and diversion, and support the well-being of the local community.
