Meet Kat McGee (she/they) 🌙

Kat started teaching because they wanted to offer the kind of class they weren’t seeing in public yoga studios.

A class for people who are anxious. People living with pain. People experiencing burnout. People who have had a DAY and are trying very hard to remain a person. A class where showing up for the last 15 minutes still counts as showing up.

Their teaching style, according to Kat: unpretentious, hospitable, nerdy.
You can expect lots of props, music you probably don’t associate with yoga, permission to ask questions or complain about a pose, and absolutely no expectation that you arrive flexible, calm, good at meditating, or looking a particular way.

Basically, if you’ve ever thought I would like yoga if yoga were a little less… yoga, Kat may be your person.

And yes, Half Moon is simultaneously their favorite pose and the pose they have beef with. We’re letting them work that out on their own time.

Find Kat at Anacortes Yoga Sanctuary:

Come tired. Come anxious. Come exactly as you are.

Kat will probably remember your name.

What if one small adjustment completely changed the way a pose felt?

Join Alexis Britton for a special Anusara Yoga Workshop at Anacortes Yoga Sanctuary.

We’ll slow things down, explore alignment, make adjustments and find new ways to approach poses you may have practiced a hundred times before.

Never tried Anusara? Totally fine. You don’t need to be an advanced yogi either. Alexis will meet you exactly where you are.

Meet your yoga teacher: Heather Sievers (she/hers) 🤍

We’re starting a new weekly series because you probably know our teachers by where they stand in the room, but maybe not by what they’re listening to, what pose they have beef with, or what they do when they’re not at the studio.

First up: Heather!

Heather has been practicing yoga since middle school and teaching for about 20 years. Her classes are heart-aligned, prop-friendly, and very much a come-as-you-are kind of space.

Outside the studio, you can find her traveling with her husband in their little red trailer, hanging out with cats, digging in the dirt, playing with rocks, or making art out of old crap.

And yes, after 20 years of yoga, she still has beef with Navasana. Same girl. 😂

Come practice with Heather at Flow & Let Go, Thursdays at 5pm, and keep an eye out for her monthly sound baths coming soon. 🤍

Sometimes it's just good to go back to basics.
Here is one of those poses that you will learn right from the beginning of your Yoga journey.

The Cat-Cow pose (Marjaryasana-Bitilisana) is a gentle flow between two shapes on your hands and knees. It links your breath to the movement of your spine to build flexibility, warm up your back, and ease tension.

If you wanted to give it a try, here is the easy steps to see if it feels good to your body:

1.Start in a tabletop position on the floor with your hands under your shoulders and your knees under your hips.

2. Keep your spine flat and your neck long.

3. Inhale into Cow pose: Drop your belly toward the floor, lift your chest and tailbone, and look straight ahead or slightly up.

4. Exhale into Cat pose: Round your back toward the ceiling like an angry cat, tuck your tailbone under, and bring your chin toward your chest.

5. Repeat the flow smoothly for 5 to 10 breaths, moving at your own pace.
