People often underestimate how deeply it can impact mental health.
In our work, we see that the effects are not always obvious right away.
They can show up quietly and build over time.
It might look like anxiety that was not there before, trouble sleeping or feeling on edge,
replaying memories or feeling stuck in what happened, difficulty trusting others or even yourself, feelings of shame, confusion, or disconnection.
Some people minimize their experience because it did not “seem that bad.”
But your mind and body do not measure trauma that way.
If something affected your sense of safety, choice, or control your feelings are valid and worth paying attention to.
