Melatonin isn't as harmless as you think.
Melatonin is one of the most popular sleep supplements in the world, but new research says we need to talk.

A study of over 130,000 adults with chronic insomnia, presented at the American Heart Association's 2025 Scientific Sessions, found that those who took melatonin for a year or more had:

↳ 90% higher risk of heart failure
↳ 3× more likely to be hospitalized for heart failure
↳ 2× higher risk of death from any cause
This study doesn't prove cause and effect, and more research is needed. But here's what IS clear:

✔ Melatonin is a hormone, not just a supplement
✔ It was never intended for nightly, long-term use
✔ Most OTC doses are far higher than your body naturally produces
✔ Labels are often inaccurate — one study found doses ranging from 74% to 347% of what's listed

If you're struggling with sleep regularly, that's a sign to see your doctor, not to keep stacking supplements. There are evidence-based options that are far safer long-term.

Save this and share with someone who takes melatonin every night.

I’ve treated pneumonia countless times, but watching my own child battle it from the other side of the hospital bed was a different kind of fear.
What carried us through were the incredible nurses, physicians, and staff who treated my child with such expertise and humanity.
This week reminded me why compassion in medicine matters just as much as knowledge. So grateful!

Did you know the recommended daily fiber intake for an adult?

• Women: about 25 grams per day
• Men: about 38 grams per day

Most people only get about half of what they need daily.

And if you are taking GLP-1! It is specially even more important to take enough fiber!

With the risk of colon cancer rising in younger population, fiber plays a big role in lowering colon cancer risk. Here’s how:
• Speeds things up – Fiber adds bulk and helps food move through the intestines faster, reducing the time harmful substances stay in contact with the colon lining.
• Feeds good gut bacteria – When fermented in the colon, fiber produces short-chain fatty acids (like butyrate) that protect colon cells and may reduce cancer risk.
• Keeps weight and insulin in check – High-fiber diets help regulate blood sugar and support healthy weight, both of which lower colon cancer risk. • Encourages regularity – Less straining and more consistent bowel movements support colon health overall.
So next time you check nutrition label, see if you can check how much dietary fiber you are getting in during the day.

If you've been watching the news you must have seen the safety of Tylenol during pregnancy come up. There have been questions about whether Tylenol (acetaminophen) is linked to autism. Here’s what the evidence shows:

🔹 Large, high-quality studies have not found a causal connection between Tylenol use in pregnancy or childhood and autism.
🔹 Professional organizations, including the FDA and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), continue to recommend Tylenol as one of the safest options for pain and fever during pregnancy and childhood when used appropriately.
🔹 Untreated fever in pregnancy carries its own risks for both mother and baby, which is why safe fever control is important.

Bottom line: There is no proven cause-and-effect link between Tylenol and autism. When used as directed, Tylenol remains an important and safe medication option. I took Tylenol during all my pregnancies especially when I got Covid. As a physician who follows evidence based medicine, I wouldn't do something if it wasn't safe.
