SEPTEMBER 8 — DAY 8: NOTICE YOUR BODY

Today, bring your attention inward.

Pause for a moment and notice your body.

Feel your feet on the ground.
Notice your shoulders.
Notice your hands.
Notice your breath.
Notice your face.

You don't need to change anything. Simply notice.

Awareness is the beginning of presence.

Sometimes, when we slow down enough to notice the body, we discover that it has been quietly telling us what we need all along.

And tomorrow, we'll take that awareness a little deeper.

Tomorrow morning I'll be sharing a short guided meditation here to help you pause, breathe, and turn your attention inward.

And if you'd like to experience a little more stillness, I'd love for you to join me for my Wednesday morning Guided Meditation.

Stay tuned for the meditation—and come join me if you can!

If you take a moment to check in with yourself today, say "I did it" in the comments.

SEPTEMBER 7 — DAY 7: PAUSE IN NATURE

Today, give yourself a few quiet minutes to connect with nature.

You don't need to go anywhere special. Step into your yard, sit on your porch, find a spot in your garden, or simply look out a window.

Take a breath.

Notice what is growing, moving, changing, or simply being.

Let yourself be reminded that you are part of this moment, too.

After a week of arriving, standing, sensing, walking, breathing, and listening, today's practice is simply to be.

No goal.
No perfect pose.
No need to accomplish anything.

Just a few minutes to slow down and appreciate where you are.

Week 1 is complete.

What has helped you feel most present this week?

It’s Simmer Pot Sunday!

Cleaning the house today and soaking up the fresh citrusy smells of my simmer pot. There’s just something about a clean house + beautiful scents + a slow Sunday that feels so good.

After our Rooted in Nature: Yoga & Simmer Pots evening with Hickory Grove Homestead, I’m definitely inspired to keep simmering!

Sometimes the simplest things can make home feel a little more peaceful.

What’s your favorite simmer pot combination?

SEPTEMBER 6 — DAY 6: LISTEN

Today, give yourself one quiet minute to simply listen.

No music.
No conversation.
No need to make anything happen.

Just listen.

What sounds are closest to you?
What sounds are farther away?
Can you notice the spaces between the sounds?
Can you listen without needing to label, judge, or figure anything out?

Simply receive what you hear.

Listening is more than hearing. It is giving our full attention to what is here.

And sometimes, when we become quiet enough to listen to the world around us, we become better able to listen to ourselves.

Take one minute today.

Be still. Listen. Be present.

SEPTEMBER 5 — DAY 5: BREATHE WITH NATURE

Today, take a few moments to breathe with nature.

Find a comfortable place outside and try this:

Inhale slowly through your nose.
Exhale slowly through your nose.
Repeat for 5 breaths.

As you breathe, imagine you are creating a little more space—with each inhale, inviting in what you need; with each exhale, letting go of a little tension.

You can do this sitting on your porch, in your garden, under a tree, or wherever you have a few quiet moments.

Your breath is always with you. Your yoga practice can be, too.

And this morning, I'll be taking that practice to the beautiful Lubben Vineyards for Rose & Namaste. 🍷

9:30 AM | Lubben Vineyards

Whether you're joining us at the vineyard or practicing at home, take five intentional breaths today and remember:

You don't have to step onto a yoga mat to practice yoga.

SEPTEMBER 4 — DAY 4: WALK WITH AWARENESS

Today, take your yoga practice off the mat.

Take a mindful walk—even if it’s only five minutes.

As you walk, slow down enough to notice:

Feel your feet meeting the earth.
Listen to the sounds around you.
Notice the trees, flowers, sky, or whatever catches your eye.
Feel the air on your skin and your breath moving through you.

There’s nowhere you need to rush to.

No destination you need to reach.

Simply walk, notice, breathe, and be where your feet are.

Because sometimes, the most powerful yoga practice is simply being fully present for the walk you’re already taking.

If you take a mindful walk today, say, "I did it" in the comments and let me know you joined me!

SEPTEMBER 3 — DAY 3: AWAKEN YOUR SENSES

Today, slow down and let your senses bring you into the present moment.

Pause for a few moments and notice:

Something you can smell
Something you can see
Something you can feel
Something you can hear

You don't have to go anywhere or do anything special. Just pause, notice, and be curious about what is already here.

Our senses are beautiful doorways into presence.

And tonight, we'll take this practice a little deeper at Rooted in Nature: Yoga & Simmer Pots with Shantel of Hickory Grove Homestead. We'll explore the senses through gentle yoga, breath, botanicals, and scent—and create something beautiful to take home.

6:00–7:30 PM | Lawrence Community Center, Anamosa

If you take a few moments today to awaken your senses, say "I did it!" in the comments and let me know you're practicing with me!

Awaken your senses. Practice presence.

Day 2: Mountain Pose 🌿
Today’s practice: Tadasana — Mountain Pose

Stand tall. Feel your feet rooted into the ground. Soften your shoulders, lengthen through the crown of your head, and take a few slow, steady breaths.

Mountain Pose may look simple, but it gives us a chance to practice grounding, stability, posture, and presence.

Your challenge today:
Take 1–2 minutes to stand like a mountain and simply notice how you feel.

Want to join in and connect with the Zen House Yoga community?

Take a photo of yourself in Mountain Pose and share it in the comments! You can be at home, outside, at work, or wherever you happen to be practicing.

No perfect pose required.

And if you'd rather not share a photo, simply say, "I did it!" in the comments to let me know you practiced today!
