A saline infused sonohysterography (SIS ) is a procedure to evaluate the uterus and the shape of the uterine cavity. SIS uses ultrasound and sterile fluid to show the uterus and endometrial (uterine lining) cavity. The purpose is to detect any abnormalities. SIS can be done to investigate conditions such as abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine adhesions or polyps, and recurrent miscarriage. American Society for Reproductive Medicine
We are often performing these procedures if someone has been struggling to get pregnant, to assess the uterine cavity for any secondary causes. Youβll also see these done commonly before an embryo transfer.
