**Finding peace in what we can control.**

One of the highlights of the 2026 ASYMCA was a meaningful workshop led by our Clinic Director Dr. MaryBeth Goodman.

Surrounded by Alaska's incredible beauty, military spouses explored the Circle of Control, a simple but powerful tool that helps us recognize what we can control, what we can influence, and what we need to let go.

To bring the lesson to life, each participant created a personalized beaded keychain through a mindfulness activity. As every bead was selected and placed with intention, spouses were encouraged to slow down, be present, and create a tangible reminder they can carry with them long after camp ends.

The keychain serves as more than a keepsake, it's a reminder that even in seasons of uncertainty, we can always return our focus to what is within our control.

We are so grateful for the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska for creating space where military spouses can connect, learn, grow, and invest in their own well-being. Because when spouses are supported, military families are stronger.

✈️ Creativity is taking flight at the Arctic Lightning Air Show! 🎨

One of our favorite parts of Air Show weekend has been watching children (and plenty of adults!) make our booth their own.

From coloring our giant airplane mural with sidewalk chalk to decorating wooden airplanes that now hang proudly from our tent, every masterpiece adds a little more color, creativity, and joy to our space.

These moments are about more than arts and crafts—they're about slowing down, spending quality time together, and creating memories as a family. Creative activities encourage imagination, spark conversation, and give kids a chance to express themselves while taking a break from the excitement of the airshow.

If you're at the , stop by our booth and help us fill the sky with colorful airplanes! We'd love to see your family's creations take flight. ✈️

Armed Services YMCA of Alaska**Meanwhile at Camp K... 🏕️**

The 2026 ASYMCA is off to an incredible start!

Early morning hikes. Fresh Alaska air. Silly hats. Banana phones. 🍌📞

Because sometimes the best reminder is that while we should always take care of ourselves, we don't always have to take ourselves so seriously.

One of the greatest gifts of this weekend at Camp K has been the opportunity to connect with amazing military spouses who understand the unique joys and challenges of military life. Laughter, friendship, and shared experiences are powerful reminders that none of us are meant to do this journey alone.

Pictured are Mrs. Simona Clark, spouse of General Ronald P. Clark, Commanding General of U.S. Army Pacific; Dr. MaryBeth Goodman, Executive Director of Service Member, Veteran, and Family Member Programs at Alaska Behavioral Health and Director of the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic; and Mrs. Sarah Riffer, Executive Director of Alaska's Armed Services YMCA, making a few "important calls" on our banana phones... reaching out to every military spouse who could use a little extra connection, encouragement, and community.

At the Cohen Clinic, we know that connection is one of the strongest protective factors for mental well-being. Events like this remind us that sometimes healing begins with a conversation, a walk with a friend, or simply sharing a laugh.

Thank you ASYMCA, for creating a space where military spouses can recharge, build lasting friendships, and experience all the beauty Alaska has to offer.
