Alaska Pharmacy Association - AKPhA

Alaska Pharmacy Association - AKPhA The mission of the Alaska Pharmacy Association is to preserve, promote and lead the profession of pharmacy in Alaska.

Whether you are from Southeast, Southcentral or the Interior, members of the Board comprise each region to ensure equal representation. AkPhA was founded in 1956 when the state was still a territory. Although the American Pharmaceutical Association recognized the association in 1957, it fell dormant for a number of years and reemerged in 1966. Since that time, AkPhA has held annual conventions in Anchorage traditionally around the Fur Rendezvous celebration.

This , we're reminding Alaskans: fentanyl is often hidden in counterfeit pills and other drugs — and many people who overdose don't know they're taking it. Your pharmacist is a trusted resource. Talk to us about naloxone access, safe medication storage, and how to recognize the signs of an overdose. Every conversation can save a life. 💙

Another incredible day of Michael Hogue’s visit to Alaska! ✈️🏔️

The day began in Fairbanks with a visit to the Tanana Chiefs Conference Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center, where Michael Hogue and Brandy Seignemartin were joined by staff from Senator Lisa Murkowski’s office to learn more about TCC’s remarkable rural and village healthcare operations.

They then joined TCC’s Director of Pharmacy and Executive Director of Health Care Administrative Services on a charter flight to the Village of Huslia—about 90 minutes each way!

The visit provided an invaluable opportunity to meet with community health aides, village and Tribal leaders, and better understand both the innovation and the unique challenges involved in delivering pharmacy services to Alaska’s most remote communities.

Thank you to everyone at TCC and in Huslia for sharing your time, knowledge, and community with us. What an unforgettable day!

What an incredible start to Michael Hogue’s visit to Alaska! 🏔️🐻

After taking in some beautiful Alaska sights—and even spotting a few bears—the journey continued from Juneau to Fairbanks with visits to the pharmacy teams at Bartlett Regional Hospital, SEARHC, and Fred Meyer.

Along the way, Brandy and Michael also had an unexpected opportunity to connect with Congressman Nick Begich before heading to Fairbanks. The day concluded with a wonderful evening event at the University of Alaska Museum of the North and Planetarium, bringing together pharmacy professionals and partners for meaningful conversation and connection.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us and helped make these first few days so memorable. More photos and highlights are still to come!

Alaska is taking an important step toward expanding access to care by allowing qualified pharmacists to provide more healthcare services within their education and training.

In this article, AKPhA Executive Director Brandy Seignemartin, PharmD, discusses how the new law could help Alaskans receive timely care for common conditions, strengthen collaborative care, support rural pharmacies, and address critical gaps in services for vulnerable communities.

Brandy helped write this historic legislation, and we are proud of her leadership and the tireless advocacy of Alaska’s pharmacy community in making this progress possible.
