Back-to-School Health Checklist

The new school year is just around the corner! Help your kiddos start the year healthy, happy, and ready to learn with these simple tips:

😴 Healthy Sleep: Encourage your kiddos to get back on a consistent sleep schedule by moving bedtime earlier 15–30 minutes each night until they're ready for school.

💧 Stay Hydrated: Pack a reusable water bottle and remind kids to drink water throughout the day to stay focused and energized.

🍎 Healthy Eating: Start the day with a nutritious breakfast and pack balanced lunches that include protein, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. A healthy breakfast helps improve focus, energy, and learning, while balanced meals keep kiddos fueled for school and after-school activities.

🎒 Backpack Check: Make sure backpacks weigh no more than 10–15% of your child's body weight and are worn with both shoulder straps.

🧼 Healthy Habits: Encourage regular handwashing and keeping a small pack of tissues or hand sanitizer in backpacks to help reduce the spread of germs.

🏃 Sports Physicals: Don't wait until the last minute! Scheduling early helps ensure your student athlete is healthy, prepared, and ready for the season.

Here's to a safe, healthy, and successful school year!

Please Support House Bill 147 and Senate Bill 193

These bills establish a clear scope of practice for naturopathic doctors that reflects their education and training and is being practiced safely and effectively by naturopathic doctors in many other states around the country.

Alaska faces a shortage of primary care providers and allowing naturopathic doctors to practice to the full scope of their training will immediately increase the number of primary care providers in Alaska.

Alaska House Bill 147 and Senate Bill 193 update our state’s law to grant trained and licensed naturopathic doctors limited prescription rights — by following Vermont and Maine's two-step process. This is a higher bar than required in many other states where licensed NDs have prescribed pharmaceuticals safely and effectively for decades including Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, North Dakota, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maryland and Washington, DC.

Let’s provide Alaskans with more options and greater access to comprehensive healthcare. With your help today, we could get these bills across the finish line!

Please write a short Public Opinion Message (POM) stating your support for House Bill 147 and Senate Bill 193 and ask the Juneau Legislative Information Office to send to all State Senators and House Representatives.

The time for our annual spring cleanse is fast approaching! Join our naturopathic doctors on our 3-week guided cleansing program aimed to reduce our exposure to contaminants in our daily environment while simultaneously supporting all our organs of elimination. This is a wonderful way to effectively and safely detoxify our bodies as we transition into spring. This year we will also discuss optimizing our metabolic health and balancing the energy needs of our body.

If you have not been seen at the clinic by one of our naturopaths or nurse practitioners within the last year or if your health history has significantly changed, please schedule an appointment with one of our NDs prior to TUESDAY MARCH 24 for an intake and physical exam. The 3 week cleanse time frame will be MARCH 29 - APRIL 18 (or modify to suit your schedule).

MEETING DATES:

TUESDAY MARCH 24: 5:30 - 6:30pm at NHC
Presentation of the detailed cleanse plan to the group. Pick up your cleanse materials and meet other participants. This meeting is optional but highly encouraged for anyone new to our cleanse. This would also be a good chance to decide whether or not the cleanse is for you.

TUESDAY APRIL 7: 6-7pm at NHC
Group Potluck to share favorite recipes to show that we CAN eat delicious food during this time! This is optional but encouraged. The more recipes and food to share, the better!

TUESDAY APRIL 14: 5:30 - 6:30pm at NHC
Discussion of how to properly reintroduce foods and come up with a future plan moving forward.

If you are interested in joining our spring cleanse, please give the front desk a call to be added to our list. You can also tell your provider and they will add you to the list.

See you soon!
