This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming two interns to Hope, Wayne Barnum and Jiyeon Yoo!
Throughout their internships, Wayne and Jiyeon gained experience across many areas of Hope’s work, including research, advocacy, data analysis, training, direct support, and organizational operations.
Wayne gained experience with training compliance, an LMS implementation, and the regulatory requirements that guide care-provider services. He also explored advocacy and ethics and supported voter rights events in partnership with Special Olympics. Jiyeon developed her skills in data analysis, research, administrative support, and direct service. Her work included analyzing incident data, gathering content for Hope’s annual report, and gaining firsthand experience providing support to people who experience disabilities. Together, they completed a Mat-Su Market Analysis, conducting research, compiling their findings, and presenting their recommendations to Hope’s leadership team.
Reflecting on his experience, Wayne shared, “There has been an infinite amount of joy brought out by the staff here at Hope, and from Day 1, you feel included in the heart of it all. The internship gave me the freedom to be creative, explore different career paths, and work on projects where I felt I could make a meaningful impact.”
Jiyeon shared, “Even though I was an intern, everyone at Hope made me feel like a valued member of the team and genuinely listened to my opinions. I was given opportunities that connected directly to my future career while also being exposed to different fields that helped me discover the kind of work I truly enjoy. I am so grateful for this deeply rewarding and enjoyable experience.”
