The "10K Steps Gang" got immortalized at Colony Days! 😂🎨

We finally took a breath after getting in 10,000 steps and got our caricature done, and we can't stop smiling (and laughing) at how it turned out. The artist captured our personalities perfectly and gave us a keepsake we'll treasure for years to come.

A huge thank you to Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home for sponsoring the caricature booth and helping make this fun community experience possible. We appreciate your support of Colony Days and all the memories being made!

Did anyone else get their caricature done this weekend? We'd love to see them!

She'll be in the market from 11:00am - 6:00pm today and tomorrow!

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of William Oviok Tapey, who was born on May 18, 1991, in Anchorage, Alaska, and passed away on May 24, 2026, in Anchorage at the age of 35.

William's life was marked by both challenges and remarkable gifts. Through all of life's ups and downs, those who knew him best remember a man whose kindness, warmth, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

William had an extraordinary ability to brighten the lives of others. He was very good at cheering people up and was known as such a fun guy to be around. His amazing laugh was contagious, and his presence could bring joy even during difficult times. He had the best hugs and always listened with such sincerity and kindness, making people feel valued, heard, and loved.

William was a proud Alaska Native who embraced his heritage and found great meaning in creating traditional artwork from baleen and ivory. Through his craftsmanship, he expressed both his creativity and his connection to his culture and ancestors. He loved spending time outdoors, whether fishing, hiking, or simply enjoying the beauty of Alaska's wilderness.

William was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and graduated from Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Oklahoma, in 2010. He carried with him the friendships, experiences, and lessons gained throughout his life.

Above all, William will be remembered for his generous heart, his laughter, and the genuine care he showed to others. While his life was cut far too short, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain with those who knew him.

William is survived by his adoptive parents, David and Catherine Dover Tapey; his siblings, Michael (Megan Gallagher), Dawn (Jon Barr), Rachael, Scott, Justin (Summer Jarvis-Mensoff), and Michelle; 14 nieces and nephews; and many members of his biological family, all of whom will cherish his memory and mourn his loss.

We celebrate the joy, compassion, and light that William brought into the world. May he be remembered for the smiles he inspired, the kindness he offered, and the enduring love he leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held on August 15 with location and time yet to be determined. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of William's life.
