Breaking Bread with the Dead 🪦

Cross Country Cookies

3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 sticks margarine
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
2 cups quick oats
4 tsps hot water
20 oz mini-chocolate chips

Mix ingredients. Refrigerate over night. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Take out when they look just right.

These hardy, carbohydrate-heavy cookies are packed with all the good stuff you need to endure a day of sport.

O'Neals Peach Cobbler

1 cup flour
2/3 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup melted butter
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup milk

Mix ingredients. Put cut fruit of your choice into greased pan. (O'Neal preferred peaches) Pour on mixed topping. Bake at 350' until done.

Forming a crispy golden-brown, buttery crust, this desert is the perfect mix of sweet and fruity.

Gramma's Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 cups Crisco (mmhmmm)
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla
4½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Cream shortening and sugars together.
Add eggs and vanilla, then mix well.
Sift dry ingredients together and mix into the wet mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoons onto a lined cookie sheet. Bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes until set and lightly browned.

These were enjoyed on our own Grandmother's serving tray with a glass of cold milk...just like she served them when we were little.

Glazed Blueberry Pie

3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 baked and cooled pie shell
4 cups fresh blueberries
1 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Spread cream cheese in bottom of pie shell and add 3 cups fresh blueberries over the top. Simmer 1 cup of blueberries in water until water is blue and berries are soft. Strain and retain water. Combine water, sugar, cornstarch in a saucepan and heat until thickened. Add lemon juice and pour over the top of the fresh blueberries in the pie shell. Refrigerate until set.

Yes, you absolutely throw out the cooked blueberries (In case you were as confused as I was!) This beautiful, glossy pie will make all your W***y Wonka Blueberry Pie dreams come true.

Breaking Bread with the Dead 🪦

Meatloaf

3/4 cup milk
2 eggs
1/3 cup ketchup
1 pack of dry onion soup mix
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper flakes
5 slices white bread, cubed
2 lbs ground beef
Sliced bacon to top meatloaf

Preheat oven to 350° Add ingredients to a large bowl and mix well with your clean hands. Press the mixture into a 9"x5" loaf pan and top with bacon slices. Bake for 1 hr and 15 minutes or until meat is done.

I preferred to use my trusty cast iron skillet for this recipe because it faithfully creates a crunchy meat crust that I love. I also topped my version with ketchup prior to placing the bacon. It was a soft meatloaf and there was very little leftover.

Natalee's Famous Brownies

5 large eggs
2/3 cups vegetable oil
1/2 cup water
2 boxes Triple Chunk Brownie Mix
2 cups chocolate chips

Combine all ingredients until well blended. Coat 9x13 baking pan with cooking spray, fill with mixture and bake at 350 degrees until toothpick comes out clean. These brownies freeze well and are double triple chocolatey good
