On Memorial Day, Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery joins our community in pausing to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Did you know that Memorial Day was originally called “Decoration Day”? It began in the years following the Civil War as a way for families to gather and decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with the first flowers of spring. In 1868, General John A. Logan officially proclaimed it a day to guard the graves of the fallen with "sacred vigilance."

While the name eventually changed and the holiday was expanded to honor those lost in all American wars, the heart of the day remains the same: a solemn tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made for our freedom.

At Anderson Memorial Park, we are honored to be the final resting place for many of our local heroes. As you enjoy time with family and friends, we invite you to take a moment of silence to reflect on the courage of those who never came home.

Lest we forget. 🌹
