Healing work is sacred work, but it’s also human work.

As mental health professionals, advocates, mothers, friends, and women navigating life ourselves, we understand that supporting others starts with staying connected, grounded, and intentional. Moments like these remind us that healing doesn’t only happen in therapy sessions or support groups. Sometimes it happens through laughter, rest, friendship, conversation, sunlight, and simply taking a moment to breathe.

The Mending Hearts Initiative was built from a shared passion to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and reminded that they do not have to carry life’s burdens alone.

As cofounders, we remain committed to breaking stigma, encouraging emotional wellness, and serving our community with compassion and authenticity. Thank you to everyone who continues to support this mission. We are just getting started.

Proud of these two emerging clinicians for representing The Mending Hearts Initiative at the AKA Mental Health Walk a couple of weeks ago.

It means a lot to see the next generation of therapists showing up for mental health awareness, community connection, and service beyond the therapy room. Thankful for their commitment to the field and the community we serve.

A few weeks ago, I had a break between sessions and hopped in TikTok. The first video that appeared on my fyp was a mom pleading for her son’s story not to be forgotten. Now, I know how algorithms work but this one made no sense to me. Then I did a little deep dive and remembered hearing about the tragedy of her son’s death. I read the news articles and watched the news reports. Then I found her name and studied her social media pages and her videos. I realized that although she is in pain, she is actively turning that pain into advocacy for children and families in need in her community. Her son’s legacy lives on through a nonprofit she founded in his honor. I said to myself, I really want to give her a platform to share her story. I thought about the countless times I’ve heard from so those in mourning that one of their biggest fears is their loved one being forgotten. I immediately had a desire to help this mom’s son’s name not be forgotten. If you know me, once something is on my heart and mind, I can’t rest until I at least attempt to make it happen. So, I reached out to her and she almost immediately responded with Yes! So, on May 2nd at our 3rd Annual Mending Mothers Lunchon, Ms. Deldras Sewellwill be our guest speaker, sharing her story and giving words of inspiration to other mothers who know all too well about devastating impact of losing a child. We’re excited to have her! Please Like and Follow her nonprofit organization page Forever 17 to learn more about her journey and the great work she’s doing in Greenville.

We will not be meeting tomorrow for Mending Hearts Grief Group.
During the holidays, grief can feel heavier and emotions can come in waves. This week, we encourage our members to lean into the coping skills you’ve been practicing, give yourself permission to rest, and take care of your heart in whatever way you need.

You are not alone, even when we pause. We will resume meeting on January 7th.
Until then, be gentle with yourself and reach out for support if you need it.
