Teresa is a wonderful person who we feel blessed to have as a Home Instead Anderson caregiver.
Compassionate, comforting and caring are a few ways to describe Teresa. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the clients she cares for feel safe, valued, and cared for. The compassion and love she has for this job always shines through. Not only does she care well for her clients, but she will sometimes stay later during a shift to comfort a nervous family member and always has the best interest of the client and family member at heart.
Teresa cared for the same client for four years until the client passed away and continues to care for the spouse of this client. She always kept the office up to date with any changes with the client while she was still alive, and she continues to care for the spouse as thoroughly and thoughtfully as she did his wife. The family and client are forever grateful for Teresa and her care after she found him following his stroke and called 911. The client often says he considers Teresa like a daughter. Teresa makes sure he gets to all his doctor’s appointments, has his medications, walks 45 minutes with him every morning she is with him, and prepares meals according to his dietary limitations following his stroke. They truly have a sweet relationship.
Furthermore, Teresa is an exemplary employee and communicates with the office when there are changes with her client, is always on time and is very dependable and trustworthy. Her dedication shines through every day. We are very blessed to have her on our team.
On a personal note, Teresa has one son and one granddaughter. She loves spending time with her mom, going shopping and going out to eat. Before becoming a caregiver, she worked at a textile plant for 24 years. When asked why Teresa wants to be a caregiver to seniors she said, “Because I have so much love and compassion for people. I like helping others and putting a smile on their face.”
Teresa has been a part of the Home Instead Anderson team since May of 2022. She has a lot of compassion, is a self-starter and always knows what needs to be done when with her client and does it with grace. Teresa is a tremendous asset to Home Instead and for all those she cares for. We are a better company because of her love and care for our seniors!

Did you know dementia can affect people under age 65?

When someone is still working, raising a family, or making plans for the future, cognitive changes can be easy to explain away or dismiss.

While age is the biggest risk factor for dementia, younger-onset dementia can happen. If changes in memory, thinking, or behavior feel unexplained, it is okay to ask questions and seek answers.

There’s more to the Iowa State Fair than corn dogs and butter sculptures—it is also a place for meaningful conversations. 🎡🌭

Dr. Lakelyn spent the day at the Home Instead booth talking with fairgoers about aging, caregiving and the many ways families can find support.

One conversation that will stay with her was with Marv, who cared for his late wife, Sharon. He shared how meaningful Home Instead’s support was for them—a powerful reminder that care can make a real difference for both the person receiving it and the family member beside them.

She also stopped by the Iowa Department of Transportation booth to talk about one of the harder caregiving conversations: driving. Starting early, leading with empathy and focusing on safety can help make the conversation feel less like taking something away and more like supporting independence.
