Reaching across the body may look like a tiny movement, but for some children, crossing midline takes practice! 🙌

You might notice your child switching hands instead of reaching across for a toy, or turning their whole body to get something on the other side. Crossing midline helps children use both sides of their body together during everyday activities like writing, dressing, and play. In therapy, we build this skill through playful activities that support coordination, writing, dressing, and everyday independence.

Speech therapy doesn’t always mean sitting at a table—it can look like sensory play, bubbles, movement, smiles, and lots of fun! 🫧💙 Before we can learn, our bodies need to feel calm and ready. During this session, sensory supports helped this sweet child regulate and connect with his therapist. Then, by using one of his favorite activities—bubbles—we created fun, natural opportunities for him to communicate!

He used a communication board, with a model from his therapist, to request, “Blow the bubbles!” Every point, gesture, eye gaze, and word is meaningful communication—and every little step is worth celebrating! 🎉

When we follow a child’s interests and meet their sensory needs, communication becomes more meaningful, functional, and fun!
