🌍 It’s not just sight. It’s an entire future.

For more than a decade, Optometry Giving Sight and its partners from the School of Optometry at the University of Montréal have helped strengthen access to vision care in Mali by investing in something built to last: local people, local skills, and sustainable eye care systems.

This is what sustainable impact looks like: building local expertise that strengthens communities today and for generations to come.

And by supporting the World Sight Day Challenge, we're helping Optometry Giving Sight invest in sustainable vision care around the world.

👓 As the seasons change, so does your child's eye health.

When school starts back up, three things tend to happen at once: more time indoors, more time on books and screens, and less natural daylight.Eye care professionals have found this combination can accelerate nearsightedness in children - especially during the winter months. 🍂

📍 Schedule an appointment today and ask your child's eye doctor about Stellest lenses - a lens option designed to help slow the progression of myopia in children: eyecareofiowa.com

The earlier you catch changes in their vision, the more options you'll have to help. 💙

🌍 It’s not just sight. It’s an entire future.

For children in rural and underserved communities, something as simple as distance or transportation costs can stand between them and the eye care they need.

Through the One School at a Time program, the African Eye Institute, with funding support from Optometry Giving Sight, is bringing vision cared directly to children who might otherwise go without. The program will provide vision screening to 20,000 children and train more than 200 local residents in vision screening and referring protocols. 👓💚

By supporting the World Sight Day Challenge, we're helping make stories like these possible.

🌍 It’s not just sight. It’s an entire future.

Othniel first received glasses in Grade 1 through the See Better. Learn Better. program in Jamaica. Now in Grade 5, he has received a comprehensive eye exam and updated glasses every year for the past five years.

This is the power of sustainable vision care. It’s not about providing care once and walking away. It’s about building systems that allow children like Othniel to access the care they need year after year. 👓💚

By supporting the World Sight Day Challenge, we're helping Optometry Giving Sight invest in sustainable programs that create lasting change.

No Two People Have Identical Iris Patterns 👁️✨

Even identical twins, who share nearly the same DNA, do not share the same iris. The iris contains 266 unique features shaped by random processes during embryonic development - significantly more than the 16 to 20 features found in a fingerprint, making it one of the most distinctive identifiers in the human body.

It's a remarkable reminder of just how unique your eyes truly are.

🌍 It’s not just sight. It’s an entire future.

At just 14 years old, Kalsoom thought the whole world was blurry and that everyone saw the same way she did.

Through the One School at a Time program, with programmatic support from Berkeley Vision and funding support from Optometry Giving Sight, Kalsoom received the eyecare and glasses she needed. 👓💚

Today, she can see the blackboard and her classmates clearly, participate confidently in class, and focus on her future.

That’s why we're proud to support the World Sight Day Challenge (WSDC), helping create more opportunities for people like Kalsoom to see clearly and thrive.

Contacts give you freedom - to run errands around Des Moines, catch a workout, or head into a big meeting without giving your glasses a second thought. But that freedom comes with responsibility. Healthy habits are what keep your eyes comfortable, clear, and infection-free for years to come.

This week, we're reminding our Des Moines community of a few simple but essential rules:
✅ Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching your lenses
✅ Never sleep in daily-wear contacts
✅ Replace lenses and lens cases on schedule - even if they "still feel fine"
✅ Keep water away from your contacts (no swimming, showering, or rinsing with tap water)
✅ Don't skip your annual eye exam, even if your vision feels unchanged

It's easy to treat contacts as routine, but your eyes deserve the same care and attention you'd give any part of your health.

If it's been a while since your last check-up, there's no better time than Contact Lens Health Week to schedule one. Our team is here to help you see - and feel - your best.

Back-to-school season means new backpacks, new schedules 🎒📚 - and a great time to think about your child's eyes, too.

Did you know contact lenses aren't just for adults? Myopia (nearsightedness) is on the rise in kids, and it doesn't just mean blurrier distance vision - it can increase future risk of serious eye conditions if left unmanaged.

That's where MiSight® comes in: the first FDA-approved contact lens clinically proven to slow the progression of myopia in children. 💚

📅 Ask us if MiSight could be right for your child at their next visit.

Contact Lens Replacement: A Key to Healthy, Happy Eyes👁️✨

Replacing your contact lenses on schedule is an important part of maintaining healthy eyes and comfortable vision. Keep these tips in mind:

📅 Stick to Your Replacement Schedule
Whether you wear daily, bi-weekly, or monthly lenses, always replace them as directed by your eye care provider.

⏰ Set Reminders
Life gets busy. Use your phone or calendar to remind you when it's time to open a new pair.

👀 Pay Attention to Your Eyes
Redness, irritation, discomfort, or blurry vision may be signs that your lenses need to be replaced-or that it's time to contact your eye doctor.

😴 Never Sleep in Lenses Unless Approved
Unless specifically prescribed, avoid sleeping in your contact lenses to reduce your risk of eye infections.

Healthy contact lens habits help protect your vision and keep your eyes feeling their best!

Did you know that 80% of what children learn is visual? 📚

Nearly every moment of your child's school day depends on clear, healthy vision - yet 1 in 4 children has an undetected vision problem.

The tricky part? Kids rarely speak up. To them, the way they see the world is all they've ever known.

Vision problems don't always look like vision problems. They can look like:
👁️ Difficulty reading or avoiding books altogether
👁️ Trouble focusing or staying on task
👁️ Falling behind in class
👁️ Frequent headaches or eye rubbing

This back-to-school season, give your child every advantage. 🎒✏️
