On With Life is teaming up with Yankee Connecticut Peddler, Easter Lake Adaptive North Shore and the VA to host Spokes Fighting Strokes! Those who have experienced a brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke or other neurological condition are invited to join us at Easter Lake on Friday, July 10, to try out recumbent and adaptive bikes.

When a stroke left Rod temporarily paralyzed on the right side of his body, he ended up at On With Life's inpatient program to begin his recovery. After his discharge from inpatient, he started outpatient therapy at On With Life's Coralville clinic where the therapists continued to build upon the foundation he had built.

"Whenever we asked 'could we do this,' the answer was always yes," said Rod's wife, Kathy. "He never felt like just a patient. His recovery has exceeded anything we could have imagined possible, and we will forever be grateful to On With Life for turning our hopes and dreams into reality."

In May, our Iowa Neuro Survivor + Family support group gathered to plant flowers in celebration of spring. 🌸 We invite you to join us at this month's support group on Monday, June 15. In September 2024, Ruth Cusack and her husband, Louis, stopped at the Alaska Native Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, to donate a moose after one of their regular hunting trips. They never imagined just hours later, they’d be back at that same hospital. Ruth suffered a stroke moments after returning home.

After spending time in the ICU and rehabilitation centers, Ruth found her way to On With Life where she focused on day-to-day skills that would get her back to doing what she loves. Louis recalls feeling an overwhelming sense of knowing this is where they needed to be.

Since being discharged in April 2025, Ruth returned home to Alaska and was recently able to go on her first moose hunt post-stroke. “We’re living life and we’re doing things again.”
