Did you know there are different types of balance?

✨Anticipatory balance is your body’s ability to prepare for movement before it happens, like stepping over a curb or reaching for something on a high shelf.

✨Reactive balance is your body’s ability to respond to an unexpected loss of balance, such as tripping over a rug, slipping on a wet floor, or being bumped in a crowd. It’s your body’s recovery system that helps prevent a fall.

Reactive balance training is especially important for reducing fall risk because it teaches your body how to react quickly and efficiently when the unexpected happens.

This exercise is one example of how we challenge reactive and anticipatory balance in physical therapy to improve confidence, stability, and safety during everyday activities.
