Speech Now Therapy Center

Speech Now Therapy Center Helping kids find their voice—because EVERY voice matters here! 💬🌈 Hi, I’m Lacey, a Speech-Language Pathologist and the founder of Speech Now Therapy Center.

I believe that every child deserves to be heard, and I’m passionate about helping kids find their voices—however that may look for them. I earned both my Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Montevallo in Alabama. I’m a licensed SLP in Iowa and hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Over the past eight years, I’ve worked with children in a variety of settings, including hospitals, outpatient therapy centers, and school systems. Most recently, I spent two years as an Assistive Technology Specialist, further developing my expertise in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). My specialties include working with children who use AAC, those with articulation and speech sound disorders, and autistic and neurodivergent individuals. At Speech Now Therapy Center, my goal is to create a space where all families feel safe, welcome, and supported. I know that communication is deeply personal, and no two journeys look the same. That’s why I take an individualized, evidence-based approach, always centering each child’s unique strengths and needs. I believe that parents and caregivers are essential partners in the therapy process. Your goals for your child matter, and I work closely with families to ensure that we’re on the same page—because your goals are my goals, too. Whether we’re focusing on first words, speech clarity, or alternative ways to communicate, I want therapy to feel collaborative, effective, and meaningful to your child’s daily life. Outside of work, you can usually find me spending time with my fiancée and our pets, curled up in a hammock with a good book, or out in the garden. I love being outdoors, blasting Taylor Swift, and embracing the joy of everyday moments. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, it’s important to me that Speech Now Therapy Center is a welcoming, affirming space for all families and individuals. I’m so excited to be part of your child’s communication journey—because at Speech Now Therapy Center, **every voice matters here!**

Turn-taking at the park 🚀

Noah and his buddy took turns launching a toy rocket, waiting patiently in between. Simple play like this is actually doing a lot of work for GLP kids — repeated, predictable phrases like "my turn, your turn" and “ready, set, go!” build the scripts they need before language gets more flexible.

No drills, just a rocket and two kids figuring out back-and-forth communication.

Speech therapy isn't just about "saying your S's right."
It's teaching a toddler their first way to ask for "more." Helping a child order their own food at a restaurant. Making mealtime safe instead of scary. Giving a nonverbal kid a voice through a device. Helping a teenager stop dreading class because of a stutter.

The sounds are just the part people can hear. 💙

Sensory Time in the Speech Room! 🌈

We keep a variety of sensory toys on hand, soft, squishy, colorful, stretchy, you name it! Our students absolutely love incorporating fidgets into our sessions... so much so that they've given them names!

We recently held a class vote to name our newest Speech Room pet, a puppy fidget! Drumroll please... his name is officially Sharky! 🐶

With Toy Story 5 bringing screens vs. toys into the conversation, it’s a good reminder that kids learn language best through real-life play and interaction.

Screens aren’t bad, but they can’t replace things like taking turns, pretending, asking questions, or just chatting with someone.

Even a little less screen time and a little more play time can create so many chances for communication. 💙
