Incredible support for our NorthStar Care Community statewide Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Program for Children pediatric hospice program!

This has been one unforgettable week. More than 300 gifts. More than $20,000 raised and people are still showing up for our pediatric hospice families.

The kindness sparked by Josh & Jase and Life of Matt's visit with our pediatric hospice families has traveled far beyond one afternoon in Grand Rapids, reaching people across the country and shining a national spotlight on the Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Programs for Children, NorthStar Care Community’s statewide pediatric hospice program.

And behind every view, share and gift is something much bigger:

Helping ensure families facing a child’s hospice journey never have to worry about the financial burden of their care.

We are incredibly grateful to Josh, Jase and Matt for listening so genuinely to our families and using their platform to share their stories and to every person who donated, shared or helped spread the word.

A special thank you to Meijer for joining this wave of generosity with a $5,000 gift to our Pediatric Hospice Endowment.

This impact reaches far beyond the numbers. It helps protect compassionate pediatric hospice care for Michigan families for years to come.

Thank you for being part of it.

🐕Meet Abby, a sweet and spirited 4 ½ -year-old Yellow Lab with a lot of pet-able
wrinkles. Abby’s human, Moni had an aunt who was in hospice and wanted to
give back and they joined the volunteer team two years ago.

Abby lights up when people pay attention to her and loves the treats Moni gives
her at visits.

Outside of volunteering, Abby loves to go for walks, trips to the dog park, learning
new tricks and playing with the newest neighborhood puppy. Abby also goes by
many nicknames—including Flabby-Abby (because of her wrinkles) and
Abbymeister — and her favorite treat associated with a hospice visit is string
cheese cut in discs. This duo brings smiles to everyone they meet!

Yesterday was a very special day for the NorthStar Care Community and our statewide pediatric program, the Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Program for Children. Every donation helps ensure that no child or family is denied access to care.

We have created a special giving option as friends of Josh and Jase at this link: https://www.hom.org/donate/

Thank you Josh & Jase and Life of Matt for spending the afternoon with our families and our team!

"For in-home private caregiver Kathy Hopps, caring for two trailblazers who helped revolutionize in-home nursing and hospice care in their final days of life brought her journey full circle. Hopps cared for Ingrid Deininger, who co-founded Individualized Home Nursing Care (IHNC) in Ann Arbor in the early 1980s when hospice and in-home care did not yet have the presence in the U.S. as it does today. Hopps was her caregiver after she went under the care of Arbor Hospice prior to her death at 83 in 2019. Now she cares for Lois, another IHNC founder who is currently under hospice care at the age of 97."

Leslie was a brilliant, independent, and career-focused woman diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) at a young age. For more than 40 years, the disease slowly progressed, affecting her health, memory, and eventually requiring a wheelchair and help with daily tasks.

Leslie’s brother, Whitney, supported her with every aspect of her care throughout her MS journey, both physically and emotionally.

When doctors said that Leslie needed to prepare for her end-of-life journey, Whitney’s support and presence remained strong. As her caregiver, he made the call to Arbor Hospice, knowing Leslie would receive exceptional care that is comprehensive, compassionate and available to everyone in the community.

Read more of Leslie's story and how Arbor Hospice with donor generosity supports families in our community facing serious illness regardless of age, diagnosis or financial circumstances.

Douglas MacArthur has a golden heart for hospice!

🐕 This spring, Douglas completed his 500th therapy dog visit with his handler, Greg Edgin, serving as a quiet companion to those needing comfort.

What began as very personal, with Douglas visiting Greg’s wife while she was a patient at Munson Hospice House, turned into a lasting commitment to volunteerism with Arbor Hospice. 💜
