Screens are part of summer. That’s not the problem.
What happens after the screen turns off is where a lot of parents feel the shift. The meltdown when screen time ends. The trouble settling into calm play. The big emotions and the sleep that won’t come.
That’s not bad behavior. It’s a nervous system that got revved into a sustained state of arousal and can’t find its way back down. Screens are built to stimulate, and a child’s nervous system reads constant novelty as a reason to stay activated, even during the “educational” stuff.
The goal was never to eliminate screens. It’s recovery. Reset time after screens matters more than the screens themselves: outdoor play, movement, co-regulation with a safe adult, quiet sensory moments. And regular chiropractic care supports your child’s capacity to handle stimulation without tipping into dysregulation.
A regulated nervous system is more flexible. More able to enjoy the freedom of summer, screen time included, without falling apart.
We’re here to help your whole family thrive through every season.
Save this for the next post-screen meltdown, and send it to a parent who needs to hear they’re not doing it wrong.
