Anna Health Reston is now a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery.

The designation, awarded by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), recognizes our Reston surgical program and the systems of care surrounding each procedure.

For patients, the bigger story is what happens when surgery becomes the next step: having an experienced team, a clear plan, and thoughtful follow-up while navigating conditions such as fibroids, cysts, endometriosis, abnormal bleeding, and pelvic pain.

Dr. Anna Le, FACOG, and Dr. Rami Tabbarah, FACOG, have also been recognized as Master Surgeons in Minimally Invasive Gynecology.

The women behind the care.

As Women in Medicine Month continues, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the people behind the work — and looking back at an evening that brought so many members of the Anna Health team together.

Every day, the women of Anna Health care for patients, lead teams, mentor colleagues, solve problems, and help shape stronger, more connected care across our communities.

From the exam room to the operating room, from teaching and mentoring to building better systems of care, their impact reaches far beyond any one visit.

We’re proud to work alongside women who continue to move medicine forward — and grateful for the trust our patients place in them every day.

Here’s to the physicians, providers, and leaders helping shape the future of Anna Health. ❤️

Pap. Pelvic exam. Annual visit. Most people use these interchangeably, and they are three different things.

A Pap is one test. It screens cervical cells for changes related to cervical cancer.

A pelvic exam is a physical exam of your reproductive organs. A Pap can happen during one, but the exam is not the test.

Your annual visit is the whole appointment. Periods, birth control, sexual health, breast health, screening, symptoms, your history, and anything you have been meaning to bring up.

Why it matters: when all three go by one name, it gets easy to assume a normal Pap result means you are covered for the year. The test is one part of it. The visit is where the rest gets looked at.

PCOS doesn't look the same on everyone.

For some women the first clue is an irregular or missed period. For others it shows up as persistent acne, unwanted hair growth, thinning scalp hair, or trouble ovulating. No single one of those confirms anything on its own.

September is PCOS Awareness Month, and the most useful thing to know is that it is the combination that tends to tell the story. If more than one of these sounds familiar, it is worth raising with your provider.

Hormone therapy isn't one thing, and most of the confusion comes from talking about it like it is.

Systemic therapy reaches the bloodstream and remains the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats. Low-dose vaginal estrogen acts mainly in vaginal and urinary tissue, with very little absorbed elsewhere. Same hormone, very different reach.

For many healthy people with bothersome menopause or perimenopause symptoms, the benefit-risk balance is most favorable when systemic therapy starts before age 60 or within about 10 years of menopause onset.

Swipe for what hormone therapy actually is, how the types differ, and the questions worth bringing to a visit.

The goal isn't a yes or a no. It's finding the version that fits.

Your first prenatal visit is about a lot more than confirming you’re pregnant.

It’s a chance for your care team to learn about your health history, medications, previous pregnancies, risk factors, and what matters most to you as you begin prenatal care.

You may also have routine blood and urine testing, talk through genetic and carrier screening options, and review questions about symptoms, exercise, travel, medications, prenatal vitamins, and what comes next.

And at Anna Health, every OB visit includes an ultrasound, giving your care team another way to check in on the pregnancy as it progresses.

No two pregnancies look exactly the same, and no two first visits have to either.

Bring your questions. The first visit is for those, too.

Burning, itching, unusual discharge, odor, constantly needing to p*e — these symptoms can overlap more than people realize.

BV, yeast infections, and UTIs are three common possibilities, but they’re not the only causes. And because the symptoms can look similar, one symptom alone usually isn’t enough to tell you what’s going on.

Yeast infections often cause significant vulvar itching or irritation. BV commonly changes vaginal discharge or odor. UTIs usually center around urinary symptoms like burning, urgency, and frequency.

If symptoms are new, persistent, or an over-the-counter yeast treatment isn’t helping, it’s worth getting checked rather than guessing.

Fever, chills, back or side pain, nausea, or vomiting can be signs of a more serious urinary infection and should be evaluated promptly. If you’re pregnant and having urinary or vaginal symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

You don’t have to guess.

PCOS has a new name: polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS. An international consensus renamed it in May.

The four words explain the condition better than the old name did. Swipe for what each one means.

Already diagnosed? Your diagnosis still stands. Same criteria, same treatment, and both names will be around for a while.

School is back, and the paperwork is due.

If your family still needs a sports physical, a well-child visit, or a vaccine catch-up, those can usually be handled in a single appointment. And because our family medicine team works in the same practice as our OB/GYN and fertility care, the provider seeing your child already has the rest of their history.

Openings this week. Now accepting new patients across Northern Virginia.
