Mahashivratri: The Night the Spine Becomes a Bridge
Today at 7:30 a.m., the sacred window of Mahashivratri opens and continues through the night until 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026.
This is my seventh observance of this night — and each year, it meets me more intimately.
In ta***ic science, Mahashivratri is not superstition.
It is alignment.
On this night, the planetary configuration creates a subtle upward movement of energy in the human system — particularly for those in the Northern Hemisphere. The body is naturally supported in vertical expansion. Consciousness is more accessible. Awareness more refined.
This is why we remain awake.
This is why we sit with the spine erect.
The spine is not merely bone and muscle.
It is the central channel of perception and vitality — the axis through which sensation, emotion, instinct, and awareness organize themselves.
When the spine collapses, awareness dulls.
When the spine rises, consciousness sharpens.
To sit upright tonight is to cooperate with nature’s upward current.
To stay awake is to refuse unconsciousness.
To breathe consciously is to participate in your own evolution.
In ta***ic philosophy, Shiva is pure, spacious awareness — the infinite stillness of the cosmos.
Shakti is the life force — sensation, desire, creativity, pulse.
Mahashivratri is the night these are invited into conscious union within your own body.
This is sensual in the truest sense:
Fully sensing.
Fully inhabiting.
Fully awake.
Not indulgence.
Not performance.
Presence.
Tonight — and throughout the day — I’ll celebrate outdoors near water, or with fresh air flowing through my home, letting my nervous system settle into the living sky above me and the steady earth beneath me.
Ta**ra teaches that we are not separate from the cosmos.
Our spines mirror the axis of the planet.
Our breath mirrors the movement of the tides.
Our inner stillness mirrors the vast night sky.
When you sit upright with awareness, you become a bridge between earth and infinity.
Whether you remain awake through the night or practice for a period of time, I invite you to:
• Sit tall and steady
• Feel your breath travel along your spine
• Let sensation refine rather than distract
• Step outside or open a window
• Allow yourself to feel both grounded and expansive
This is one of the most energetically supportive nights of the year for inner alignment. Not because something outside of you changes — but because nature itself is assisting your upward movement.
Sacred union begins within the body.

May this night awaken your spine, steady your nervous system, and remind you that you are both earth and sky.
