There was a time in my life when yoga was the answer to everything…
I had been trying to break free of trauma, and 5 years of poor and hurtful decision making.
Then, I fell ill with autoimmune.
Yoga became a rock in which I could steady my life through the unknown, and its wild oscillations—
It gave me a foundation in patience, discipline and mindfulness, but when I injured myself years later, it was not enough to stay pain free.

As a massage therapist, we tend to believe flexibility is the antidote to mobility issues.
It is part and parcel of it, but not the entire answer.
You have to know what muscles to STRENGTHEN as well as RELEASE.
As an orthopedic massage therapist, I make it my business to know what muscles my client needs to isolate— both through manual manipulation and a series of passive/active tests.
I usually also recommend a good physical therapist for further investigation.

I still recommend yoga— especially to counteract the rigidity that comes with prolonged sitting, as well as to help move energy around the body so we can help heal ourselves from the inside out.
But at the end of the day, it is part of the medicine— but not all.
