I keep coming back to this question.
Why do we have an entire recovery culture for athletes, but almost none for postpartum women?
I was an athlete for years. Recovery was part of the work.
Compression. Heat. Cold. Massage. Mobility. Nutrition. Supplements. Red light. Physical therapy. Sleep.
No one thought it was indulgent to help the body recover.
Then you look at childbirth.
A massive physical event. Tissue healing. Pelvic floor recovery. Hormonal shifts. Sleep deprivation. Feeding a baby. Caring for a baby. Often while trying to feel like yourself again.
And somehow postpartum recovery became:
Rest when you can.
Use an ice pack.
Give it time.
I think we can do better.
I want us asking which recovery tools already being used in sports and wellness could be thoughtfully studied, adapted and made more accessible for postpartum women.
Not because every tool is right for every person.
Because recovery should be a conversation.
Because women deserve options.
Because “you had a healthy baby” should not be the end of the conversation about how the mother is doing.
I’m deeply interested in where postpartum recovery goes from here.
And I’m on a mission to keep pushing this conversation forward.
A couple of the recovery tools I’ve been using and loving lately are linked in my ShopMy. I’ll keep adding the things I actually use as I test them. https://shopmy.us/collections/7093035
What do you wish someone had offered you for your own recovery after birth?
