A Success Story: What Real Progress Looks Like

Today was one of those days that reminds me why I love this work.

I said goodbye to a young man I've had the privilege of caring for through our RISE for Life program, and I've been sitting with it ever since. He's moving away soon, and this was our last visit together, but what a way to end this chapter.

I still remember where he started. The uncertainty in his eyes. The way he'd shrink a little in his chair. And today, he walked in with his shoulders back and a smile that honestly caught me off guard. The kind of smile that comes from somewhere deep, from finally feeling at home in your own body.

Watching him get here wasn't about a number on a scale, even though those numbers tell a real story too. It was about the small, unglamorous choices he made over and over... showing up, building better habits around food and movement and sleep, trusting the process on the days it felt hard, and choosing to keep going anyway.

What he's built for himself goes so far beyond physical health. I watched a young man discover his own strength. I watched his confidence grow alongside his progress. And today, saying goodbye, I couldn't help but feel overwhelming pride...not just in how far he's come, but in who he's become along the way.

I don't think I'll forget this one. I can't wait to see where this life takes him. Wishing him nothing but the best in his next chapter. I will always be here in the background cheering him on!

Why doesn’t RISE Pediatrics work with insurance companies?

It’s a fair question, especially because this is a very different way of receiving pediatric care than most of us are used to.

The short answer is that insurance changes the way a medical practice has to operate. It affects how visits are structured, how much time a provider can spend with patients, what gets billed, and what hoops have to be jumped through along the way.

When I opened RISE, I wanted to be able to take my time when a family needed more than a quick visit, and I wanted parents to be able to reach out with a question instead of waiting until the next appointment. AND, I wanted to know my patients well enough that when a parent says, “Something just seems off,” I have some context for what that means.

Direct Primary Care makes room for all that.

Instead of billing insurance for the care I provide, families pay a monthly membership directly to RISE. That allows me to care for a smaller group of patients and be more available to the families in my practice.

You can still use your insurance for care outside of RISE, such as prescriptions, labs, imaging, specialists, hospital care, and other covered services based on your individual plan. RISE simply does not bill or work with insurance companies for the care provided through the membership.

For some families, using a traditional insurance-based pediatric practice will make the most sense. For others, having more direct access to their child’s provider and a different kind of relationship with their pediatric practice is worth doing things a little differently.

That’s the reason behind the model. It gives me the room to practice pediatrics in a way that feels much closer to why I became a provider in the first place.

If you're interested in DPC with RISE, you can submit a Discovery Call Interest form on the website. Looking forward to meeting you!

Most parenting questions I get aren’t emergencies. They’re the little things that come up in the middle of everyday life.

A cough that sounds a little different tonight or a fever that shows up right at bedtime.

A medication your child absolutely refuses to take đŸ€ą. A rash you’ve checked approximately 47 times because you still can’t decide if it looks better or worse.

Or your teenager casually mentions something that makes you realize it’s actually been bothering them for weeks.

In those moments, most parents just want to know what to do next.
Should we come in? Can this wait until tomorrow? Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Within the new Direct Primary care model at RISE, I can help you decide when your child needs to be seen, when it makes sense to keep an eye on things at home, and when you can stop worrying and get some sleep.

And the longer I care for a child, the more helpful those conversations become. I know what’s normal for them. I remember what happened last winter. I know what you’ve already tried and what tends to work. I know the things that worry your child and the things that worry you.

That relationship is a big part of why I created Direct Primary Care at RISE Pediatrics.

Enrollment is now open. If you’d like to learn more, visit the RISE Pediatrics website and complete the Discovery Call Interest Form.

It’s official! RISE Pediatric Direct Primary Care is LIVE!

I have been working toward this for such a long time, and I am beyond excited that the day is finally here.

RISE DPC is now accepting families seeking a different kind of pediatric care that offers more time with their provider, easier access when questions arise, and the chance to build a relationship with someone who really gets to know their child.

If you’ve been waiting to learn more, you can now visit the RISE Pediatrics website and complete the Discovery Call Interest Form.

I’ll review each form and reach out to families who may be a good fit to schedule a Discovery Call. We’ll have a chance to talk, answer your questions, and make sure RISE feels like the right fit for your family.

I am SO excited to finally get started and welcome our first DPC families to RISE!

Visit the RISE Pediatrics website to complete the Discovery Call Interest Form and take the first step.

Ten years ago today, I lost my best friend, my soul sister.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you, talk to you, or wonder what you'd say if you were here. Growing up alongside you, I watched you face the daily challenges of living with a chronic illness. I saw the strength it took, the heartbreak, the moments people didn't understand, and the resilience that made you who you were.

We made a promise to each other that we'd always take care of one another. When you left, you took a piece of my heart with you. But somehow, I still feel you keeping your promise.

I truly believe you've been one of the angels guiding me to exactly where I'm meant to be. Every family I advocate for, every child I fight for, every parent I sit beside, I carry a little piece of you with me. The healthcare community I'm trying to help build is the one I wish existed for you... and now for my own son... and for every family navigating the overwhelming world of chronic illness.

Your life changed me. Your story continues to shape the provider, the mother, and the person I strive to be every single day.

I hope I'm making you proud.

Rest peacefully, Blair Bear. You'll forever be my Sketinoodle. Until we meet again. đŸ€
