Here's Part 3 of my series of videos on su***de awareness and prevention.
Here are some protective factors against su***de:
1. Having good, positive coping skills and problem solving skills
2. Being truly connected to others (family, friends, support system, a community of people you feel you truly belong to)
3. Having access to mental health physicians and therapists you trust to provide the treatment you need
4. Connection to a Higher Power - beloving in something greater than yourself that gives you guidance, strength to endure hardship, and peace
5. Having a strong sense of purpose and reason for living (having goals or dreams you want to accomplish, wanting to help others, wanting to see your children grow and thrive, etc)
6. Not having access to lethal means
If you know of anyone that may be at risk of su***de, don't be afraid to ask them how they're doing, what they're going through, and if they've had thoughts of harming themselves or taking their own life. Talking about su***de doesn't make someone more likely to do it. It actually opens the door to ask for help.
You can direct them to call or text 988 (mental health crisis line) or text "hello" or "talk" to 741 741.
