A dip in grades. Withdrawal from friends. A phone that never leaves their hand, and an anxious silence when it’s taken away.
Educators and school counselors are frequently the first to spot the signs of unhealthy digital habits in teens — often before parents do. A few patterns worth watching for:
- Loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy
- Irritability or anxiety when separated from their phone
- Declining academic performance paired with late-night screen use
- Social withdrawal that tracks with increased time online
If you’re seeing these patterns in your classroom or practice, it may be worth a conversation with the family — and we’re always available as a resource for that conversation.
Safe. Affirming. Trauma-Informed.
