Have you completed speech therapy for Parkinson’s disease and want a way to continue practicing and maintaining your communication skills?

We’re excited to announce Voice Power Hour, a new voice maintenance and wellness support group designed specifically for individuals who are ready to keep the momentum going after individual therapy.

This group will provide opportunities to:

✅ Build confidence in conversation
✅ Connect with others on a similar journey
✅ Enjoy encouragement, support, and camaraderie

If you use your voice for work (aka professional voice user) then you know how important it is to have your voice. Even if you don’t use your voice for “work”, it’s still important to have it. It’s also important to avoid vocally abusive behaviors and incorporate healthy ones.

A few signs to look out for:
- hoarseness
- chronic throat clearing
- pain in the throat
- feeling a lump in the throat
- vocal fatigue (voice feels tired after use)
- aphonia ( loss of voice)

You may benefit from seeing an ENT if you’re experiencing the above symptoms frequently or for an extended period of time. An ENT can take a look at your vocal folds and recommend a course of voice therapy if needed with a speech language pathologist.

If you’re working with someone who enjoys crafting use the hobby to target treatment goals. Believe it or not we used this simple craft project to target voice 🤔💭. What happens to the voice of a person with PD when you add a cognitive load? Exactly…So practice using the voice you want while doing something they enjoy.
