When seconds matter, knowing what to do can make all the difference. 🚨🐾

If your pet has been hit by a car:
• Move them to safety only if it’s safe to do so
• Approach carefully, as pain and fear can cause even the sweetest pets to react unexpectedly
• Keep them as still as possible and minimize movement
• Apply gentle pressure to active bleeding, if present
• Contact a veterinary team right away for guidance and urgent care evaluation

Even if your pet seems okay, injuries aren’t always visible right away. Quick action can make a big difference.

It’s heating up outside, and so are the risks for your pets.

As temperatures rise, we start to see more cases of heat exhaustion, and it can escalate quickly if you’re not watching for the signs. Panting is often the first clue, especially when your pet is struggling to cool themselves. You may also notice excessive drooling, bright red gums, vomiting, or weakness. If gums turn purple or gray, or your pet has trouble standing or collapses, it’s time for immediate emergency care.

If you notice any of these symptoms, get your pet out of the heat right away. Move them into shade or air conditioning, offer cool, room-temperature water, and avoid ice or very cold water, as that can make things worse.

Heat exhaustion can quickly turn into heat stroke, so acting early matters. If you suspect your pet is experiencing heat exhaustion, don’t wait. Seek emergency veterinary care right away.

Swimming is a great way for dogs to cool off, but it can come with serious risks.

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can be present in lakes, ponds, and slow-moving water, especially during hot weather. It often looks like green paint or streaks on the surface. Exposure can be life-threatening, even with small amounts ingested.

If your dog has been swimming and shows signs such as vomiting, weakness, drooling, tremors, or difficulty walking, seek veterinary care immediately.

When in doubt, keep your dog out of questionable water, bring fresh drinking water, and supervise closely.

If you’re concerned your pet may have been exposed, don’t wait. We are here to help 24/7!

Summer is right around the corner, and that means more time outside grilling with family and friends. While it’s a fun time for us, it can come with some hidden dangers for our pets.

At a 24/7 emergency clinic, we often see pets come in for things like:

🍗 Eating bones (especially cooked bones that can splinter)
🌽 Corn cobs (which can cause blockages)
🧅 Toxic foods like onions, garlic, and certain seasonings
🔥 Burns from hot grills or charcoal

Even small amounts of certain foods can cause serious issues. If you’re grilling this summer, keep food out of reach, secure trash, and remind guests not to feed your pets.

If something does happen, we’re here for you and your pet 24/7!
