I attended the USC Arcadia Hospital fundraising gala this weekend. It was a wonderful event that helped raise funds for an excellent hospital.
, , and are here with me in this photo. In addition to raising money for the hospital we were also celebrating at 15th anniversary of the start of her Arcadia clinic. During that time she has created a clinic that sets the standard for exceptional dermatologic care in San Gabriel Valley. Congrats to

My family and I just got back from a great short trip down to San Diego. We saw some beautiful views, self-toured a few college campuses, and had some great meals. We had a wonderful, relaxing time.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend.

We had a great Easter Weekend. We enjoyed Mimosas (for the Vitamin C, of course), easter egg hunts, and a great meal during our Easter brunch.

It was the first time in over a year that we had all four grandparents (all fully vaccinated) together indoors for a family meal along with their grandkids. We have much for which to be thankful.

If you have been dealing with constant severe skin itch for years, you may have atopic dermatitis, the most common form of eczema.

Atopic Dermatitis
-Hereditary
-itchy skin that when scratched becomes red, scaly, rough, cracked and discolored
-chronic and recurrent for many years.

Treatment options:
-Regular use of moisturizers. Apply the thickest moisturizer that you can tolerate once or twice daily.
-Periodic use of prescription topical steroids based on your providers instructions.
-Systemic treatments
-Oral Steroids
-Other anti-inflammatory (but often immunosuppressant) non-steroid medications
-Injectable medications such as Dupixent

Since March is National Nutrition Month, I have been looking for opportunities to share some good nutritional advice.

Dr. Rachel Paul does a great job with providing helpful information with her fun posts. She deserves a follow. I think this post is a great example. We have all felt the sluggishness that comes from a heavy lunch. The challenge is trying to remember that feeling so we make better choices the next day. It can be tough but we can do it.

Exposure to sunlight has been shown to cause a release of endorphins and is thought to cause an increase of serotonin in the brain.  Both of these effects are felt to be the reason for the mood-lifting effect of sun exposure. Unfortunately, some studies show that this can lead to addictive behavior in seeking sun exposure.

Because of these biological effects it can take more of an effort for some people to be consistent with their sun protective behavior.  As skin specialists, I feel we need to keep this in mind in counseling patients. We should exercise patience and understanding as we discuss the risks of unprotected sun exposure.

My daughters and I took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend and enjoyed a father/daughters brunch. We went to where they have expanded their outdoor seating! Great food, great espresso drinks and their tables are well shaded!

and I were honored to be the main presenters at the Clinical Case Conference yesterday. This virtual meeting is part of their weekly Continuing Medical Education series organized for the medical staff. We presented cases that we felt could add to the breath of knowledge of this audience of outstanding medical practitioners. We addressed some excellent questions and discussed topics ranging from auto-immune blistering skin conditions and COVID-related skin manifestations.
