Forty-five years of building a life together... (plus all the lilies of the valley my dad could muster on the West Coast. 😭)
What a journey. We've been blessed beyond measure with three daughters who have grown into remarkable women. We've experienced the incomparable joys of being parents, along with the heartaches that come from loving so deeply.
Life has also tested us in ways we never could have imagined back then. Together we've faced my long coma, and many other challenges along the way. Through it all, we've held on to each other, to hope, and to the love that has carried us through every season.
Today, my heart is filled with gratitude—for every blessing, every lesson, every laugh, and every day we've been given together.
Happy 45th Anniversary, my love. Here's to the life we've built, the family we cherish, and the adventures that are still ahead. ✨

A conversation about parents' and educators' dilemma in choosing between brain-based, behavioral and relational approaches and how we landed in neurodevelopmental work that considers the bigger picture. It's why I wrote Beyond Behaviors. This conversation about the paradigm shift in psychology and education with my friend and colleague, Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D. who was an early paradigm shifter. We recall what the treatment landscape was like when we started our careers, and how that influenced the work we do with kids and families. Thanks to PESI for arranging and Kate Sample for moderating our discussion.

To celebrate the new, updated second edition of Beyond Behaviors, Dr. Delahooke is answering her most-asked questions from readers and keynote audiences. Thi...

When we see behavior as communication, we begin to respond with understanding instead of control.

Private equity companies are turning autism treatment into a multi-billion dollar industry, sold as behavior management. Many providers (myself included) believe that autism is not a behavior to manage, but a neurodivergent brain that should be appreciated, accommodated, and nurtured.

Many years ago, I flew across the country to meet fellow clinicians who like me, weren't satisfied with the rapidly growing business model in autism treatment hyper focusing on behavioral compliance. We wanted more and collectively believed three things:
1. Behavior isn't the destination, connection is.
2. Humans are whole from the start.
3. Growth isn't about compliance, it's about engagement and meaningful, reciprocal relationships
