I don’t want to wear a mask forever. And I know you don’t want to wear a mask today, let alone tomorrow or forever. So, get vaccinated.
There’s a chance that a condom will fail, risking you or your partner having an STD or an unplanned pregnancy, but you still wear one and continue to have s*x.
There’s a chance your seatbelt won’t save your life in a car wreck, but you still click it and drive to work or school every day, with your family in the car.
There’s a chance your bike helmet won’t save you from a traumatic brain injury, but you wear it and still ride when you can. And you probably make sure your kids are wearing a helmet, too - just in case.
You wear a life jacket when you wake board, but it doesn’t mean you won’t drown. Yet you still go to the lake and wake board whenever you can. And you are probably teaching your kids how to do it well.
So why aren’t you getting the COVID vaccine? Yes, you might still get infected. And yes, you might still infect someone else. But 0.001% of vaccinated people are dying from COVID, and 0.005% of those vaccinated are being hospitalized. Meanwhile 97% of those hospitalized are not vaccinated. Show me that your condom, your seatbelt, your helmet, or your life jacket can do better. But you still use those public health measures.
We all accept some risk in our day-to-day activities. This is not the time to play Craps with society. You choose who you have s*x with, you choose your route to work or school, you choose your bike, your helmet, and the bike route, and you also choose who goes out on the water with you and which waterway you frequent.
You don’t choose who breathes the air we share and who gets exposed to your breath.
Get the vaccine.
