My son was just one month old and I was on maternity leave with him when the Sandy Hook shooting happened in 2012. In the weeks that followed, I was not sure if I was experiencing postpartum depression or appropriate grief from watching this unthinkable tragedy lead to no action taken by our government.. Now, after 14 years and innumerable shootings leading to gun violence becoming the number one cause of death in this country for children, I feel just as hopeless. If anything is a sign that we are broken as a nation, it is that we cannot take the most obvious of measures to protect our children, who are our future. My heart breaks today for the community of Bend, Oregon, and every family affected by gun violence. God help us all, as our elected leaders will not. 🙏
