I sent my mom a rare selfie recently, and she responded that I looked beautiful but she saw sadness in my eyes. Well it's a sad time to be alive, I replied. I wear my grief and love on the outside. 💔❤️
My name is Laura, she/her/they, PhD, & I'm the founder of A Restful Space, offering accessible, trauma-conscious, post-capitalist rest-orative yoga & collective grief tending in Humboldt County, CA. I'm also a geography college lecturer, parent, writer, & creator of two self-paced online courses, Yoga for Eco-Grief (now housed with ) & Breathing for 🍉. My work explores the radical intersections of rest & grief, yoga & community, embodiment & power, cyclical wisdom & collective liberation.

I've deepened in my trauma-informed grief offerings as a practitioner of the & a student of , & I have an MA in International Studies & a PhD in Cultural Geography specializing in Gender, Justice, & Environmental Change.
A yoga practitioner for more than a decade, I've offered yin & restorative classes, workshops, & private sessions since 2018, & I began facilitating community grief circles in 2021. I've been invited to share at the , , , , , & at Vipassana meditation retreats. I've also published essays in places like & , & I wrote a Yoga Nidrā-inspired children's book called 'The Little Book of Rest' w/art from .and.pine.
I live on unceded Wiyot land in Arcata, CA (Wiyot place name: Goudi'ni, meaning 'among the redwoods' 🌲) with my partner & our daughter, dogs, & cats. I'm devoted to centering collective liberation & radical care in everything I do...this is what we must do now. May we all get free. 🔥🧡
