Summer heat can affect your body faster than you may realize.

Heat exhaustion can happen when your body gets too hot and struggles to cool down. It may start with heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, or feeling unusually tired.

The important thing is to listen to your body early. Get out of the heat, rest in a cooler place, drink water, and do not ignore symptoms that continue to get worse.

If someone becomes confused, faints, has trouble staying awake, stops sweating, or symptoms become severe, seek emergency care right away.
