Steroid injections can absolutely help some people, especially in the short term. But they're not a permanent fix. Studies have found that pain relief is often temporary, and many patients experience a return of symptoms within weeks to a few months depending on the condition being treated. In some musculoskeletal conditions, 30–60% of patients report only limited or short-lived improvement.
The bigger concern is what repeated steroid injections can do to the tissues you're trying to heal. Corticosteroids can reduce collagen production, weaken tendons and ligaments, slow tissue repair, and may contribute to degeneration of cartilage with repeated use. While they can calm inflammation, they don't rebuild damaged tissue or address why the pain developed in the first place.
That's why we're excited about therapies that work differently. Transcutaneous Pulsed Radio-Frequency (PRF) Therapy doesn't rely on steroids. Instead, it delivers pulsed electromagnetic energy that helps modulate overactive pain nerves, decreasing abnormal pain signaling without destroying the nerve. The goal is to calm the nervous system while allowing normal function to remain intact.
When we combine Pulsed Radio-Frequency Therapy with photobiomodulation (red laser therapy) and a thorough evaluation to identify the underlying cause of your pain, we're not just chasing symptoms—we're working to restore function. Many patients are looking for an option that helps them move better without another injection.
If foot pain is keeping you from doing the things you love, it may be time to ask a different question—not "Where can I get my next shot?" but "Why does it hurt in the first place?" Sometimes the best solution isn't masking the pain—it's changing the signal that's creating it.
