โ€œClean the kitchenโ€ can hold a lot of decisions:

๐Ÿ ž What needs to happen first?
๐Ÿ ž Where should everything go?
๐Ÿ ž How long will this take?
๐Ÿ ž What if I do not finish?

A different option is to name one clear action:

โ€ข Clear the counter.
โ€ข Start the dishwasher.
โ€ข Put away five items.
โ€ข Throw away the obvious trash.
โ€ข Wash one pan.

This is not a rule, and it will not make every cleaning task feel easy.

But for some adults, reducing a broad chore to one visible action can make the entry point easier to find. You do not have to commit to finishing the whole kitchen before you begin.

For some adults, the hard part is not a lack of knowledge, effort, or caring.

You may understand the assignment.
You may know the deadline.
You may even have a detailed plan.

And still, opening the document, choosing where to begin, or moving from โ€œI shouldโ€ to โ€œI am startingโ€ can feel much harder than expected.

That experience does not automatically point to one explanation. Stress, pressure, uncertainty, fatigue, and many other factors can make beginning feel complicated.

But it may be worth responding with curiosity instead of self-criticism.

What tends to make the first step feel more manageable for you?

When a task feels impossible to start, it may not be a motivation problem.

Sometimes the first step is too vague.
โ€œWork on the presentationโ€ leaves a lot for your brain to hold at once.

Sometimes it is too large.
โ€œFinish the projectโ€ can feel like trying to lift the whole thing before you have even found a place to begin.

And sometimes the task carries a feeling with it: uncertainty, pressure, dread, or fear of getting it wrong.

A more compassionate question might be:

โ€œWhat is the smallest, clearest next action I can take?โ€

Maybe it is opening the document.
Writing three possible headings.
Finding the email thread.
Or setting a two-minute timer to simply look at what is there.

Small and specific does not make the task unimportant. It can make beginning feel more possible.

Another Friday, another wonderful member of our team to introduce! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Dr. Salotto offers partnership-based ADHD therapy that makes room for the full pictureโ€”not just the to-do lists, missed deadlines, or overwhelm, but the person experiencing it all.

As someone with ADHD herself, she understands that support is never one-size-fits-all. Her approach combines compassion, trust, and practical problem-solving to create strategies that fit your needs and your life.

Because ADHD support is not about forcing yourself into someone elseโ€™s system. It is about discovering what helps ๐‘ฆ๐‘œ๐‘ข move forward.

Follow along next Friday as we introduce another member of The Center for ADHD team. โœจ

If you have ADHD, you may notice that starting a task feels easier when someone else is quietly presentโ€”whether theyโ€™re working beside you, on a video call, or simply in the same room.

This is often called ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜† ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด.

Itโ€™s not about someone supervising you. Itโ€™s about borrowing structure, reducing isolation, and giving your attention a gentle anchor while you begin.

You might try body doubling while:
โ— Answering emails
โ— Doing laundry
โ— Paying bills
โ— Starting a school or work task
โ— Tidying one small area

Who could be your no-pressure body double this week?

Group therapy can also offer connection, structure, and shared understanding with other adults navigating ADHD.

Living with ADHD may mean your brain needs different tools, timelines, and environments to thrive.

That does not erase the hard parts. ADHD can still bring overwhelm, emotional intensity, focus challenges, and frustration.

But your needs deserve supportโ€”without judgment.

You are allowed to build a life around what works for your brain, not around what looks effortless for someone else.
